The growing congestion on the calendar, and the franchise opportunities available to Australian cricketers, is evidenced in the fact Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett will complete their IPL duties instead of featuring in Australia\u2019s ODI series against Pakistan beginning on May 30. The quartet will feature in the series against Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Australian captain Pat Cummins, who has reportedly been offered a $12 million contract over three years, said in March there was a \u201ctension point\u201d given some players will have to sacrifice significant earnings for national duties.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe interesting point is, obviously a big Ashes series, all the main guys want to play that series,\u201d Cummins told the Business of Sport podcast. <\/p>\n
\u201cFor example, during the Hundred this season we\u2019ve got two Test matches against Bangladesh. All our guys that will play in that Test match have opted out of going to the Hundred auction but that\u2019s not going to be the case forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of our guys are saying no to half-a-million pounds for 20 days\u2019 work to go and play those two Test matches against Bangladesh. I think it is a tension point. At the moment our guys are so keen to play for Australia that they\u2019re happy to forgo that, but I don\u2019t think we can accept that that is going to be the case forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the reported acrimony, Bailey does not believe the landscape has altered this year when it comes to contractual offerings and said he believed the vast majority of players placed representing Australia at the top of their priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we have had conversations with nearly every player, I think, regarding that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think it is a changing landscape, but it\u2019s the landscape that\u2019s in front of us and players have an incredible amount of options at their mercy at the moment across a range of competitions. So I think we\u2019re incredibly fortunate that we\u2019ve got a group of players who remain incredibly passionate and loyal in terms of playing international cricket for Australia. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo those guys, and I think the really key ones are your multi-format players who play a lot of cricket and spend a lot of time on the road, that\u2019s the key to managing them and ensuring that when they are playing they are at their best form. It remains critical and I don\u2019t think that is going to change over the next period.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also believes there are advantages to the clashes between franchise cricket and international tours, noting that it ensured a broader pool of players would be match-hardened should the need arise to find a replacement.<\/p>\n
As a case in point, champions including Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell will be playing in the USA\u2019s T20 competition during the Australian tour of Bangladesh, and there will continue to be clashes in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I guess two things – if you do happen to have moving parts in those squads, there\u2019s often players that are ready and available or match fit at any point of time,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd secondly, I think the other benefit is that they\u2019re continuing to play, so hopefully that deeper depth of your talent pool and when and how you might need players is continuing to grow, regardless of the fact of whether they are playing international cricket or franchise cricket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, CA\u2019s plan to privatise the Big Bash League by selling stakes in all eight teams to private investors was put on hold after Queensland Cricket joined New South Wales in rejecting the $600 million proposal.<\/p>\n
