<\/p>\nMarried At First Sight is being monitored by SafeWork NSW over “psychosocial concerns” after a past contestant’s tragic death, the Daily Telegraph reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lachie Rofe, who appeared on the first season of the beloved Australian dating series in 2015 before going on to star in Farmer Wants A Wife a year later, committed suicide last year.<\/p>\n
The devastating news was shared by NSW MP Mark Latham, who had been acquainted with the late reality star before his untimely death.<\/p>\n

Latham accused MAFS producers of deliberately choosing vulnerable people to appear on the show and “feeding them to the wolves” in order to boost TV ratings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want to see another tragedy like him,” Latham said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMAFS is the most extreme of the reality TV shows that seek to break people down and gain ratings from sort of unhinged personalities.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they\u2019re cast that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to claim that those who featured on the program were often given edits to manipulate the storyline, adding that the show’s entertainment value came at \u201cthe expense of individuals, their public reputation and their mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n
While no formal investigation has been launched, SafeWork NSW revealed it was continuing to looking into the show’s processes after a Request for Service was lodged at the beginning of 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The state’s work health and safety regulator added that it had responded to four separate complaints last year regarding the \u201cpsychosocial concerns raised during the filming of MAFS\u201d, the publication reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This resulted in production company Endemol Shine being issued three improvement notices related to \u201creporting of notifiable incidents\u201d, \u201csystems of work to manage for physical and psychological hazards\u201d and \u201cwork health and safety training\u201d.<\/p>\n
When approached for comment, a representative for Channel Nine and Endemol Shine stated that they take their obligations extremely seriously when it comes to the health and wellbeing of the participants.<\/p>\n
“All participants have access to the show psychologist and welfare resources during filming, during broadcast and once the program has ended. Nine also provides an additional service for participants should they like or need further individual and confidential psychological support.”<\/p>\n
They added: “This service gives participants access to clinicians to support those involved in the program in relation to their experiences. This service is available to all participants for as long as they need it, with no end date.\u201d<\/p>\n
