{"id":663663,"date":"2026-05-11T10:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T10:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/663663\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T10:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T10:46:08","slug":"penny-smith-sets-world-record-at-trap-shooting-world-cup-in-kazakhstan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/663663\/","title":{"rendered":"Penny Smith sets world record at trap shooting World Cup in Kazakhstan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australian shooter Penny Smith has broken a trap world record with her perfect performance in a World Cup final in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Paris Olympics bronze medallist scored 30 out of 30 to win the women&#8217;s trap World Cup round in Almaty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 31-year-old from Geelong thrived in the new finals format, which is faster paced and has fewer targets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She said the world record was &#8220;a very special moment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Shooting the new final format for the first time was a great experience,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I knew I just had to stay in my lane and focus on each target. I wasn&#8217;t focused on the world record \u2014 just on staying in the moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;[The new finals format] is certainly a sprint. We dive into the biggest story of the day and get you up to speed with everything else that&#8217;s making headlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Fellow two-time Olympian Laetisha Scanlan also made the final, finishing fourth, while Stephanie Pile was 39th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">James Willett shot a near-perfect 124 out of 125 in qualification for the men&#8217;s trap and finished fifth in the final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mitch Iles was ninth to just miss a place in the eight-man final, while Thomas Grice (19th), Gabe Sensi (27th) and Jamie Dunn (66th) also competed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Smith combined with Iles to finish 15th in the trap mixed teams event.
