Well \u2026 guess what happened? For

\nWall Street Journal headline<\/a> from March 19: \u201cMillions of Americans
\nAre Going Uninsured Following Expiration of ACA Subsidies.\u201d The article
\nreported: \u201cNearly one in 10 people who had Affordable Care Act plans last year
\ndropped health insurance altogether, after premium costs rose sharply because
\nof the expiration of federal subsidies, according to a new survey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since that article ran, states have
\nbeen reporting on their exact enrollment numbers for this year. In Georgia, for
\nexample, more than half a million people\u2014all of them faced, remember, with
\nhigher gas and grocery prices\u2014have decided to forgo coverage. The Georgia
\nRecorder reported<\/a>
\non April 20: \u201cThe 37% enrollment drop\u2014from 1.5 million Georgians in January
\n2025 to 950,000 as of April 17, 2026\u2014dwarfs any previous decline in the state
\nsince the launch of so-called Obamacare health insurance plans in 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n

While some of that drop happened
\nbefore the subsidies expired, the lion\u2019s share of it came after. It means that
\nif you make more than $64,000 in Georgia, you have to pay full sticker price
\nfor health care, which in turn means that \u201cfor some Georgians, the cost of
\npremiums more than tripled,\u201d according to the Recorder. And while the
\nnumbers are more dramatic in Georgia, this is happening all over the country. It
\nwill, in addition, have a lot of knock-on effects. For example, hospitals will
\nhave to provide more uncompensated care, which leads to things like less money to
\ninvest in equipment and technology, which leads to worse care. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Well \u2026 guess what happened?
