However, during his tenure, he was only able to guide the Sea Eagles to the finals once in four seasons despite having a stacked roster of State of Origin and international representative stars.

“I didn’t think I’d be sacked after round three, but the actual response after the Roosters game, my gut feeling sort of said that something was going to happen,” Seibold said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.

“I spoke to (Manly CEO) Jason King after the game and I just said, look, I feel like there’s a lot of commentary and a lot of noise around my role, the club.

“And I felt as though either the club needed to come out and back me and support me or the club needed to make a decision to move me on.

“That’s the decision the club made. I said to King, you know, I’m a man, handle it well. And yeah, as I said, my gut sort of told me after the game that potentially they might go that way.”

“I felt as though, working with Jason, I think he was keen to put his stamp on the club.

“I do have to say this, like, rather than a long, slow death, I actually respect that it was a quick kill in many respects, so I’ll always remember my time at Manly, although you never want to go through what I had to do at the end.”

Continuing to speak on his departure from the club, Seibold admitted that he wouldn’t have done anything different and doesn’t have too many regrets about how his tenure finished up.

“I wouldn’t do anything different there from a staffing point of view. I feel like our game, you know, would stand up,” he added.

“And I feel like, you know, you can see that the style of play that the guys are playing now, I just feel like we’re a little bit off with the other parts of the game.

“I don’t walk away with too many regrets other than, you know, the way that it all finished up.

“I’d love to still be, you know, coaching the team because they’re a good team and very talented team, as you can see.”

Surprisingly, he also opened up on Daly Cherry-Evans’ abrupt decision to sever ties with the club midway through the 2025 season, which many believe derailed the club during that year.

“Daly couldn’t have been more clear in his conversation with me. Daly told me November 1, 2024, that, you know, he was going to look around and see whether there was an opportunity to continue playing elsewhere,” Seibold said.

“Chez was our captain and I wanted to support our captain. That’s why, you know, I didn’t, you know, drop him from the captaincy. I didn’t drop him to reserve grade.

“I saw the model that Souths did with Adam Reynolds when he had signed for the Broncos, and I thought that was the best thing for our club to keep Chez as our leader.

“We won 12 games and when you normally win 12 games and have a positive for and against, nine times out of 10, you make the playoffs.

“We won six of our last 10 games with Chez as captain, playing some really good footy. We won our last three games by over 120 points. So we actually finished the season in reasonable shape and that’s why I was so positive about this year.

“Unfortunately, losing three games at home when, you know, people do expect you to win at home.

“You’ve got to put your hand up, you know, as a head coach, you’re accountable for the performance.

Asked by Corey Parker if he would entertain the idea of being a head coach in the NRL again, Seibold said he was “not sure” but he does want to return to the game of rugby league in some capacity.

“I’m not sure, Coz. I’m not sure. Look, I’ve enjoyed the bulk of my time coaching and I’ve had some great experiences,” he elaborated.

“I’ve had some challenging experiences as well. But one thing I feel like I am sold on, I’ve loved rugby league since I was a little boy.

“I used to ball with the Rocky Brothers up in central Queensland. So, yeah, I love coaching and I want to keep involved in the game in some capacity.”

In his first interview since being terminated by the Manly Sea Eagles after just three rounds into the…

[568
64,63,761,762,158,85
post-664743","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nrl","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-national-rugby-league","tag-nationalrugbyleague","tag-nrl","tag-sports
["GET
