The Mariners on Monday recalled righty Domingo Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> from Triple-A Tacoma, per a club announcement. Lefty Jose A. Ferrer<\/a> has been placed on the paternity list in a corresponding roster move. Gonz\u00e1lez will be making his major league debut when he first takes the mound.<\/p>\n

A waiver claim out of the Braves organization last August, Gonz\u00e1lez has rebounded from last year\u2019s middling numbers with a big start to his 2026 season. After posting a combined 4.47 ERA, 20% strikeout rate and 11.3% walk rate between the Atlanta and Seattle organizations in 2025 (Double-A and Triple-A combined), he\u2019s pitched 15 frames of relief and notched a tidy 1.80 ERA. Gonz\u00e1lez has fanned 23.7% of his opponents and cut his walk rate to an immaculate 3.4%. He\u2019s faced 59 hitters and has the same number of walks\/hits allowed (14) as strikeouts recorded. Half the batted balls against Gonz\u00e1lez this season have been grounders \u2014 up from 44% last year.<\/p>\n

The 6\u2032, 185-pound Gonz\u00e1lez works off a classic four-seamer\/slider pairing. He\u2019s averaged 93.1 mph on the heater this year and is sitting 85.3 mph on his slider. It\u2019s not an overpowering profile from a velocity standpoint, but Gonz\u00e1lez has generated chases on balls off the plate at a 30.5% that\u2019s about a percentage point north of the major league average and logged a 12.7% swinging-strike rate that\u2019s nearly two percentage points north of par in MLB.<\/p>\n

This is the second of three minor league option seasons for Gonz\u00e1lez. He can be freely shuttled between Seattle and Tacoma for the remainder of this year and next, although with several key injuries in the Mariner relief corps at the moment, all of Seattle\u2019s depth arms have some opportunity to make an impression. The M\u2019s have been without hard-throwing sinker specialist Carlos Vargas<\/a> all season, and they\u2019ve lost Matt Brash<\/a> (lat inflammation) and Gabe Speier<\/a> (shoulder inflammation) to the 15-day IL recently. Neither Brash nor Speier is necessarily expected to be out long term, but their absence has opened at least short-term windows for not only Gonz\u00e1lez but also Alex Hoppe<\/a>, Nick Davila<\/a> and Josh Simpson<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Mariners on Monday recalled righty Domingo Gonz\u00e1lez from Triple-A Tacoma, per a club announcement.
