UFC CEO Dana White\u2019s combative relationship with the media is well-documented<\/a>. As for why he hates dealing with journalists, his frustration seems to stem from the presumption that they are unworthy of demanding answers from someone in his position.<\/p>\n

White recently sat down for an interview with David Senra<\/a>, who interviews founders and business leaders, and explained why he gets so mad dealing with media members.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy biggest problem with the media? Who the f*ck are you and what the f*ck have you ever done? Nothing,\u201d said White. \u201cYou\u2019re nobody, and you\u2019ve never done anything ever. Nobody\u2019s ever depended on you for a paycheck. Who are you to criticize anybody?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just saying at the press conference in Winnipeg on Saturday, you have all these people on the internet. Talking about what we should be doing with our business. I said, \u201cHoly sh*t, you guys are fucking brilliant. PFL, Bellator, One FC, many, many other failing companies. Why don\u2019t they just f*cking hire you guys? You guys have the answers for everything, right?<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t even read this shit because it\u2019s so dumb. And I realize these guys know nothing about this business, yet these are the people that are covering it. It\u2019s fascinating to me that anybody listens to any of these people.\u201d<\/p>\n

White appears to be conflating several types of media members and content creators to make his point. He also appears to see journalism as criticism, which is not a one-to-one comparison. By lumping all forms of media together, he can attempt to devalue journalists\u2019 work by painting them as uneducated critics.<\/p>\n

White\u2019s critique that journalists haven\u2019t started a company and therefore aren\u2019t capable of reporting on it echoes a sentiment we often hear from coaches and athletes who don\u2019t think non-athlete journalists can properly understand their sports, which is patently untrue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Much of the work of journalism is to find the answers that people like White don\u2019t want to provide, and his common tactic of bullying them and denigrating their coverage works in certain circles but signals to others that there\u2019s a reason to keep digging (especially when there\u2019s a lot to dig into<\/a>). And the more people like White attempt to warp reality<\/a> to meet their needs<\/a>, the more it makes good media members want to ask tougher questions<\/a>.<\/p>\n
