Sprint sensation Gout Gout will double up in the 200 metre and 4x400m relay as part of a record 75-strong Australian team at the U20 world athletics championships in Oregon in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gout, 18, has elected to prioritise the world juniors over the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow<\/a> with the aim of emulating the legendary Usain Bolt, who won the 200m gold back in 2004 to kickstart his peerless career.<\/p>\n Gout is the U20 world record holder in the 200m<\/a> \u2014 the discipline where he won silver at the previous edition of the world juniors in Peru in 2024.<\/p>\n The meet will take place at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, the spiritual home of US track and field, from August 5, just three days after the conclusion of the Glasgow Games.<\/p>\n “I’m really excited to get out there at World Athletics Under 20s,” Gout said.<\/p>\n “I know it’s a great stadium and place to run fast, and I feel confident I’ll be ready to step up and make Australia proud.<\/p>\n “I’ll be competing in the 200m, but I’m also excited to join in the 4x400m on the last day.”<\/p>\n Gout’s announcement comes a week after Australia’s men’s team won an historic bronze in the 4x400m at the World Relays in Botswana, with Luke van Ratingen, Reece Holder, Tom Reynolds and Aidan Murphy running an Oceania record of 2:55.20.<\/p>\n Gout will not run the 100m despite winning the event for the second straight year at the national junior championships<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n The large under-20s squad also includes high jumper Izobelle Louison-Roe, who will be aiming to go one better than her silver from the 2024 titles in Lima.<\/p>\n
