Eye-catching experimental wide-screen laptops aren’t the only thing Lenovo has going on right now. Believe it or not, the computer brand also has some traditional gaming laptops on the way, with Lenovo launching the new Gen 11 Legion range in Australia

Led by the Lenovo Legion 5i, the new gaming laptops include all the RGB-backlit keyboards and gamer-themed flourishes you’d expect, but not excessively so. Lenovo intends for its mid-range (by gaming PC standards) laptop to be an all-in-one: a device suited to work, study, and play.

Where many gaming laptop makers follow traditional sizing conventions, like 14- and 16-inch variants, the Legion 5i has a 15-inch screen, which is unusual for the sector. To be precise, it’s a 15.3-inch OLED display, with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and 165Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood is one of Intel’s new laptop systems-on-a-chip, with the top spec including a Core Ultra 9 386H. It’s supported by up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and a 2TB SSD.

In Australia, the Gen 11 Lenovo Legion 5i — a model the company says is one of its best-selling devices — starts at $4,149 for the base configuration. Ongoing global memory shortages mean the laptop is pricier than a similar-spec machine might have been in previous years, but it still looks solid.

For something a bit more affordable, Lenovo also launched the LOQ 15IPH11, another 15.3-inch gaming laptop, albeit considered separate from the core Legion range. With a $3,339 starting price, it’s a bit heavier (2.1kg versus 1.88kg), and does away with the OLED display in favour of IPS, but it still matches the Legion 5i’s GPU, memory, and storage specs.
