MT. CARMEL – The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces picked up another big win Thursday afternoon, as the varsity tennis squad dominated against Fairfield in doubles and singles action, 7-2.<\/p>\n
Mt. Carmel started the match strong, as the duo of junior Isaiah Courter, and senior Will Hudson took the win in two sets, beating the Mules, 6-3, in the first, and, 7-5, in the second.<\/p>\n
The Golden Aces continued their success in the No. 2 doubles match as the senior duo of Rhett Andrews and Ty Hipsher pulled out the win in three sets. Andrews and Hipsher dominated in the first set, winning 6-2; however the Mules duo battled back in the second, 2-6, to knot the match at one.<\/p>\n
Hipsher, and Andrews kept fighting though, as the senior duo came back to take the final set and win the match, 1-0 (9).<\/p>\n
Fairfield answered back in the No. 3 match-up on the day, as the Mules defeated the Aces senior duo of Grant Lane, and Ronnie Berberich in three sets, 2-6 , 6-4 , 1-0 (5).<\/p>\n
The Aces lead would grow going into singles action, as Courter dominated his opponent in the No. 1 match-up, as he won in two sets, 6-0 , 6-2.<\/p>\n
Mt. Carmel looked to take the second singles match, but Fairfield answered back to top Hudson in three sets, 6-4 , 2-6 , 1-0 (6).<\/p>\n
The match was tied at 3-2, however the Aces went on a tear, beating out the Mules in singles action to take the 7-2 team win over Fairfield.<\/p>\n
After Thursday\u2019s big win, the Aces returned to the tennis Courts at Wabash Valley College on Monday to host the Robinson Maroons in Little Illini Conference action. Following Monday\u2019s matches, the Aces will hit the road, traveling to Olney Tuesday to battle the Richland County Tigers in LIC play.<\/p>\n
