{"id":66598,"date":"2025-08-14T02:56:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T02:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/66598\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T02:56:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T02:56:07","slug":"unemployment-rate-improves-in-july-falling-to-4-2-per-cent-as-full-time-jobs-surge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/66598\/","title":{"rendered":"Unemployment rate improves in July, falling to 4.2 per cent as full-time jobs surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Australia&#8217;s unemployment rate improved in July, edging lower to 4.2 per cent from 4.3 per cent in June, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Statistics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Employment increased by nearly 25,000 people, driven by 60,000 full-time jobs, and the number of unemployed people also fell in the month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The ABS noted that female workforce participation hit a record high last month, as the number of full-time female workers grew by 40,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The overall participation rate, which is the proportion of people in work or looking for a job, remained steady at 67 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank maintained its forecast for the unemployment rate to sit at 4.3 per cent in December this year.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs data should keep &#8216;RBA on sidelines&#8217; in September<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Australian dollar rose to two-week highs following the data release, as the improvement in the jobs market saw expectations of an interest rate cut in September pared back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\"><a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-08-14\/asx-markets-business-live-news-14-august\/105650562\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105650562\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Markets live updates: Follow the latest stock market and currency moves, plus business news and analysis, at the ABC News markets blog.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Economists and traders are betting on a further reduction in rates by the RBA this year, with November considered the most likely timing, after this week&#8217;s 0.25 percentage point cut took the cash rate to 3.6 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The tick down in the unemployment rate in July is likely to keep the RBA on sidelines at its next meeting in September, but we still think the bank will ultimately loosen policy a bit further than most expect,&#8221;
