Iconic singer Sir Rod Stewart appeared to take a swipe at US President Donald Trump during a meeting with King Charles.<\/p>\n
The veteran rocker greeted the monarch at an event in London on Monday to mark the 50th anniversary of Charles\u2019 charity The King\u2019s Trust, before telling him: \u201cMay I say, well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou put that little ratbag in his place,\u201d according to a video clip of the exchange.<\/p>\n

MORE: Trump unleashes on Meghan in wild spray<\/a><\/p>\n The King listened to Stewart and appeared to laugh. <\/p>\n However, the Maggie May singer didn\u2019t mention Mr Trump by name nor was it clear if Charles was reacting to a comment about the US President. The King did not appear to say anything in return.<\/p>\n Stewart has said he has fallen out with Donald Trump. He claimed to have once known him \u201cvery, very well\u201d but he has become \u201canother guy\u201d since he became president.<\/p>\n MORE: Charles\u2019 wild $6m power move to please Camilla<\/a><\/p>\n Charles\u2019 quips to Trump<\/p>\n During a lavish dinner hosted by the US President last month, Charles delivered a speech that received widespread praise.<\/p>\n At one point, he jokingly told guests: \u201cDare I say that if it wasn\u2019t for us, you\u2019d be speaking French?\u201d<\/p>\n The quip was in response to Mr Trump who previously told European leaders that without US aid in World War II they would be \u201cspeaking German and a little Japanese\u201d.<\/p>\n The King was referencing places in North America where the rival colonial powers battled for control of the continent before US independence 250 years ago.<\/p>\n While striking a warm tone with good humour and noting the \u201cspecial relationship\u201d between London and Washington, he made further good natures jokes at Mr Trump\u2019s expense, saying he could not help noticing the \u201creadjustments\u201d to the White House East Wing \u2013 which the former real estate tycoon has demolished with a plan to build an extravagant $US400 million ballroom.<\/p>\n \u201cI am sorry to say that we British, of course, made our own attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814,\u201d he said, when British soldiers torched the building.<\/p>\n In a speech To Congress, Charles received a standing ovation when he spoke of the importance of the British derived system of \u201cchecks and balances\u201d on presidential power in the US Constitution. <\/p>\n That was seen by some as subtle dig at the current White House which has been accused of bypassing Congress and haranguing the courts. <\/p>\n Stewart\u2019s beef with Trump<\/p>\n In a 2025 interview with UK magazine Radio<\/a> Times<\/a>, Stewart said he had fallen out with the US President<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a great fan of Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew him very, very well. I used to go to his house. I live literally half a mile away (in Florida).<\/p>\n \u201cI used to go to his Christmas parties. He\u2019s always been a bit of a man\u2019s man. I liked him for that. But he didn\u2019t, as far as I\u2019m concerned, treat women very well. <\/p>\n \u201cBut since he became president, he became another guy. Somebody I didn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018Got me to do something that no one was able to\u2019<\/p>\n Despite the humorous remarks, Mr Trump was so enamoured was Charles and Camilla, he made the decision to completely abolish a UK tariff altogether. <\/p>\n \u201cIn Honour of the King and Queen \u2026 I will be removing the Tariffs and Restrictions on Whiskey having to do with Scotland\u2019s ability to work with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Whiskey and Bourbon, two very important Industries within Scotland and Kentucky.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople have wanted to do this for a long time,\u201d said Mr Trump referencing the wooden whisky barrels that regularly move between distilleries sin the UK and US.<\/p>\n \u201cThe King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!\u201d<\/p>\n
