<\/p>\nAmerican superstar Errol Spence Jnr had only concern before agreeing to fight Tim Tszyu in his own backyard this July, declaring: \u201cThe only process was negotiating how much I\u2019m going to get \u2026 [then] it was easy for me\u201d.<\/p>\n
The declaration comes as Spence has also taken the big stick to Tszyu\u2019s chances against him, and questioned his global profile, promising to KO the longtime Australian pay-per-view star who \u201cisn\u2019t the biggest of names\u201d.<\/p>\n
After disappearing from the boxing world for three long years, 36-year-old Spence is finally making his hyped return against Tszyu on July 26 — with Sydney\u2019s Qudos Bank Arena favoured to play host.<\/p>\n

Join now and get your first month for just $1.<\/a><\/p>\n And in a sit-down interview with fellow American great Shawn Porter, Spence has revealed he initially sought bigger names for his hyped return to the ring \u2013 including reigning WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora.<\/p>\n From there, Spence also suggested it was him who effectively chose to make his return outside of the United States, before then promising to finish Tszyu like previous opponents Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev.<\/p>\n Asked initially about how the impending July blockbuster was made, Spence laughed: \u201cThe only process was negotiating how much I\u2019m going to get.<\/p>\n \u201c(Then) It was easy for me.<\/p>\n \u201cThey were trying to get me to fight at Cowboy Stadium, or somewhere in America. But I was like \u2018nah, I want to have my first fight back somewhere else\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cThen it came up Tim Tszyu and I said \u2018I\u2019ll definitely take that fight\u2019 …\u201d<\/p>\n Asked by Porter about having always fought the best, and if Tszyu now represented that, Spence continued: \u201cAhhh, he wasn\u2019t the best I can get.<\/p>\n \u201cI was looking at Fundora. I was looking at top names saying \u2018I\u2019ll fight y\u2019all\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m the type of guy, I don\u2019t believe in ring rust. I\u2019m different.<\/p>\n \u201cFight night, it comes out.\u201d<\/p>\n Tszyu previews mega-clash with Spence Jr | 14:08<\/p>\n \u201cAs fighters,\u201d Porter then continued, \u201cwe\u2019re always looking at the best. Always looking at the biggest fights.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd sometimes it takes that manager, or that person next to us to say \u2018hey, let\u2019s slow it down, let\u2019s start right here\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cYou wanted the biggest of names and we see now you have Tim Tszyu. Not saying he isn\u2019t the biggest of names, but you have Tim Tszyu.<\/p>\n \u201cSo after going away from what you wanted, do you now look at this and say \u2018this is the best fight for me\u2019 \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Spence, grinning: \u201cDefinitely. I feel like the styles mesh well.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd you don\u2019t have to retract on that. You know what you said. Tim isn\u2019t the biggest of names.<\/p>\n \u201cHe cool, but he ain\u2019t the biggest of names.\u201d<\/p>\n Porter, grinning now and looking straight down the camera barrel: \u201cFor Main Event, he is the biggest of names\u201d.<\/p>\n Spence: \u201cHe\u2019s one of the biggest names in Australia, you know what I\u2019m saying?\u201d<\/p>\n So as for how the July headliner plays out?<\/p>\n \u201cMan, I really don\u2019t know,\u201d Spence continued, still grinning. \u201cAll I know is he\u2019s definitely going to get punched up.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how the fight will play out \u2026 but it\u2019s definitely going to last as long as it lasts.<\/p>\n \u201cLike I say all the time, I don\u2019t get paid for overtime.<\/p>\n \u201cSo as soon as I can get out of the ring, get to my family, throw the peace sign and get out, I\u2019m going to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n Soon after, Spence continued: \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a one-sided fight.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s going to give it everything he has.
