Charle Young, who played 13 NFL seasons with four teams and won Super Bowl XVI with the San Francisco 49ers, has died at 75<\/p>\n

The tight end was a three-time Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles<\/p>\n

Young helped the Seahawks reach their first postseason in 1983 and was named the offensive team captain for the 1984 season<\/p>\n

Charle Young, an NFL tight end whose career spanned 13 seasons and included a Super Bowl victory, has died. He was 75.<\/p>\n

The Seattle Seahawks<\/a> and San Francisco 49ers<\/a>, two of the four teams Young played for, announced his death on Tuesday, May 12. The 49ers were told of Young’s death by his wife, according to the Associated Press<\/a>. No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n

Following his collegiate career at the University of Southern California (USC)<\/a>, for which he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, Young was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as the sixth pick in the 1973 draft, NBC Sports Philadelphia<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The NFL star made the Pro Bowl in his first three seasons with the Eagles, and was a first-team All-Pro as a rookie in 1973.<\/p>\n

Young was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 1977 and played in Super Bowl XIV in 1979.<\/p>\n

After joining the 49ers in 1980, he scored the first playoff touchdown for the 49ers’ ’80s dynasty when he caught a touchdown pass from Joe Montana<\/a> in the 1981 Divisional Round against the New York Giants, the AP reported.<\/p>\n

Young played with the 49ers for three seasons and contributed to the team’s Super Bowl XVI victory in 1981 by catching a pass from Montana in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

Young joined the Seahawks in 1983 and started all 16 games that year, helping the team become the first in franchise history to reach the postseason, according to the organization’s press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was named Seattle’s offensive team captain for the 1984 season, becoming one of just three players to earn that title for the Seahawks during the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Young recorded 97 receptions for 1,217 yards and five touchdowns while starting 43 of 45 games played with the Seahawks.<\/p>\n

After the 1985 season, he finished his career with 418 catches for 5,106 yards and 27 touchdowns in 187 games, per the AP.<\/p>\n

“When I first came into the league, it was more about individual stats, but I learned quickly that it is the team stats that are most important where you accomplish the ultimate goal and that’s to win,” Young said in a 2017 interview with PhiladelphiaEagles.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“And so looking from the standpoint, that solidifies the legacy of being a winner because I won in college, the national championship, I won in the NFL, a Super Bowl championship (with the 49ers),” he continued. “And so that is what I look at as being the most promising and probably the most fruitful of my endeavors.”<\/p>\n
