Carlton have confirmed the departure of list manager Nick Austin just hours after Michael Voss stepped down as senior coach of the AFL club. And leading analyst Gerard Healy has floated a massive name who might replace Voss.

The Blues announced on Tuesday night that Austin met with management that afternoon and then resigned. It capped a massive day for Carlton after Voss quit the club on Tuesday morning after four years in charge.

Austin had been in the role since 2020 and was responsible for trades that brought Adam Saad, Adam Cerra and Ben Ainsworth to the club. He also oversaw the deal that sent Charlie Curnow to Sydney last year in exchange for three first-round picks and Will Hayward.

Football boss Chris Davies will take over list management duties “for the foreseeable future”. Davies said in a statement: “Our club thanks Nick for his commitment and dedication to the football club over the last five years. Nick is a great club person and we wish him all the best for the next chapter in his career.

“While today has certainly been one of significant change, we continue to move forward as a football program, with our focus to remain solely on taking this club in the direction we need to improve in every area of our football performance.”

It continues a period of significant change for Carlton, with Davies, President Rob Priestley and chief executive Graham Wright all stepping into their roles in the last 18 months after high-profile departures. Assistant coaches Aaron Hamill, Aaron Greaves and Tom Lonergan all left at the end of 2025 as well, making Voss and Austin the seventh and eighth high-profile figures to leave in recent times.

Meanwhile, Healy has identified Swans and Demons legend Paul Roos as the man who should take over from Voss. “To me, the perfect model for this job is the Paul Roos-Simon Goodwin handover model,” Healy said on SEN radio.

“Appoint Roos if he’s available (or Ken Hinkley for that matter if he was agreeable) to take the hits and weather the storm initially as you reset the list, set the ship on the right path off the field and hit the draft hard, and simultaneously appoint an assistant coach like James Kelly, or James Rahilly out of the Geelong super-coach factory to take over in two years time.

“Roos is currently on a beach in Hawaii, reaching for the factor 15 (sunscreen). He’s refreshed and ready to go and knows exactly what is required in this situation.”

On Channel 7, Kane Cornes made the stunning call for Carlton to chase current Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir. “If you’re looking and ranking who are the best coaches in the league, I’ve got him as the sixth best coach in the league right now,” Cornes said.

“Go and at least try and get him. Try and give him a five-year deal at $6 million. Give him the security that he needs that Fremantle have been unprepared to give him.

“He is coaching extremely well, eight (wins) in a row … And he’s available right now and he’s the sixth best coach in the league. Go and get him.”

Carlton have confirmed the departure of list manager Nick Austin just hours after Michael Voss stepped down as…

[2
78977,6856,78976,31756,43,3257,44,72243,21230,41,39,42,40
post-667791","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-aaron-hamill","tag-carlton","tag-chris-davies","tag-gerard-healy","tag-headlines","tag-michael-voss","tag-news","tag-nick-austin","tag-paul-roos","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories
["GET
