Kotoni Staggs fears a costly brain snap in the dying minutes of the Broncos<\/a> loss to the Roosters<\/a> could be the reason he does not earn an Origin call-up in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Staggs is serving the final days of his two-week ban for an ugly tackle on Hugo Savala<\/a> that opened the door for the Roosters to runaway and claim a 38-24 win in round nine.<\/p>\n

The star centre expressed his remorse to his Broncos teammates after the final siren, with the already depleted group left to battle without another experienced leader. <\/p>\n

“I feel like I have let them down,” Staggs told 9News Queensland.<\/p>\n

“I want to be on the field every weekend and putting in 100 per cent for them.<\/p>\n

“With the way our injury list is going … I need to think about what I do before I do it.”<\/p>\n

Staggs has slowly come to terms with the fact that the ramifications of his actions have not only impacted the Broncos but also bruised his chances of representing the Blues.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old has been floated as a serious contender to be named in Laurie Daley’s Blues side for game one, receiving a strong rap from Michael Maguire<\/a> to be selected. <\/p>\n

But two weeks on the sidelines while others in the league eligible for selection for the Blues are making clear statements to their representative coach is not the ideal situation for any player to be in, especially not Staggs.<\/p>\n

“I think two weeks of footy is pretty massive for the selectors,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They want to watch you and the way you are performing.<\/p>\n

“I want to have my spot back there … I have been playing some good footy, but you never know what could go on or what the coaches have to pick from.”<\/p>\n

While Maguire will be awaiting the return of Staggs, he is also nearing closer to having Billy Walters back on his list of eligible players for the Broncos.<\/p>\n

Walters revealed his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury is almost at its end, although he still has at least a month left of recovery to do.<\/p>\n

Once that is complete, he is eager to begin discussing his role in the team with Maguire.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a slow burn but I am really excited to get back,” Burns said.<\/p>\n
