A soccer academy has rallied around a schoolboy who was critically injured<\/a> when his backpack became caught between carriages and he was pulled beneath a train at North Melbourne Station.<\/p>\n

Lustica Football, which runs a high-performance junior soccer academy in North Sunshine, said 12-year-old Chris was a \u201cmuch-loved\u201d member of the club, as he continues treatment in hospital following Monday\u2019s traumatic accident.<\/p>\n

The year 7 St Aloysius College student remains in a stable but critical condition at Melbourne<\/a>\u2019s Royal Children\u2019s Hospital after suffering serious injuries at the busy station.<\/p>\n

Specialist emergency services<\/a> rescue crews spent close to an hour freeing the boy after multiple triple-0 calls from horrified commuters just before 4pm.<\/p>\n

Ambulance Victoria<\/a> paramedic Alex Hemsley described the rescue as an \u201cincredibly traumatic\u201d scene for everyone involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did a fantastic job,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did everything as quickly as they could have done, provided the highest-level care to this young person in potentially one of the most traumatic days of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an emotional social media post shared overnight, Lustica Football<\/a> said the club\u2019s \u201cthoughts and prayers\u201d were with Chris and his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cChris is currently receiving world-class care and ongoing medical treatment, surrounded by the support of his family and loved ones,\u201d the club wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ask our football community to keep Chris and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.<\/p>\n

\u201cStay strong Chris, we are all behind you.\u201d<\/p>\n

An outpouring of support flooded the post from classmates, parents, teammates and members of the local community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThoughts and prayers are with his family. Chris is a year 7 at our school. We look forward to seeing him back in due course. You got this gorgeous Chris!\u201d one woman wrote.<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cSending you lots of love and strength Chris and family from your 7A class. We are all thinking of you and praying for your recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others described the accident as a \u201chorrendous tragedy\u201d and said they were praying for the young boy to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n
