Google is using on-device AI to analyze how you use your Android phone and provide \u201cContextual suggestions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once available, scroll down to the bottom of Settings > [your name] > All services. There is a new \u201cOther\u201d category for \u201cContextual suggestions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUse context suggestions\u201d is enabled by default: \u201cGet helpful suggestions from your apps and services based on your routine activities and locations.\u201d AI learns from that \u201cdevice activity and location data\u201d and uses it to make \u201cpredictions about what might be helpful to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Google provides two examples:<\/p>\n

\tAdvertisement – scroll for more content<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026your music app might suggest a playlist at the gym that you often listen to during your evening workout.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026if you often cast sports games to your living room TV on Saturdays, your device can suggest casting at the right time.\u201d<\/p>\n

This capability operates in an \u201cencrypted space on your device.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unless you give permission to share your data for some other purpose, the data used for contextual suggestions is never shared with apps or Google, and never leaves your device.<\/p>\n

Additionally, apps and services \u201ccan\u2019t see this data, but can use the predictions to offer you timely suggestions.\u201d You have the option to disable \u201cdevice location\u201d and \u201cDelete all stored data\u201d at any time.<\/p>\n

A recently published Android support article (Get personalized app suggestions with Contextual suggestions<\/a>) explains how: \u201cBefore you use contextual suggestions for the first time, you\u2019ll find a notice about the feature that provides a link to your settings.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of today, we\u2019re seeing this setting rolling out on the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10a (which does not support Magic Cue), running Android 16 with stable version 26.18 of Google Play services. It is not currently appearing on older Pixel phones or Android 17 Beta releases.<\/p>\n

We haven\u2019t encountered what the interface for contextual suggestions looks like. Presumably different from the Pixel\u2019s Magic Cue, Google has yet to officially announce it.<\/p>\n
