For more than a decade, \u201cFIBA Patty\u201d has owned the scoring point guard role for the national men\u2019s team, but the six-time NBL MVP is now \u201cBoomer Bryce\u201d.<\/p>\n
Bryce Cotton will play for the Boomers at the FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifiers at RAC Arena in Perth, the venue where the American-born superstar won the first of five MVPs before signing with the Adelaide 36ers before the start of NBL26.<\/p>\n
\u201cRepresenting the Australian men\u2019s national basketball team for the first time is something I don\u2019t take lightly. Coming from where I come from, this opportunity means a lot to me and my family,\u201d Cotton said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAustralia has embraced me from day one, and I\u2019m grateful for the chance to wear the green and gold alongside a great group of guys. I\u2019m excited, motivated, and ready to give everything I have for the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Boomers play Guam on July 3, 2026 and the Philippines on July 6.<\/p>\n
Basketball Australia is today announcing that Bryce Cotton will make his Australian Boomers debut at the upcoming FIBA 2027 Basketball World Cup qualifiers at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re excited to see what Bryce looks like as part of the Boomers program,\u201d EGM of High Performance Jason Smith said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel like he\u2019s a great cultural fit, and obviously, he has a dynamic playmaking ability, which has been on display with his performances at the elite level over the last decade.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe think he\u2019ll suit the physicality of the international format, and the July window in Perth will give us a solid look at how he integrates to the FIBA game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Back in September 2025, when Cotton was going through the process of earning his Australian citizenship, the possibility of playing for the Boomers wasn\u2019t on his radar.<\/p>\n
” I haven\u2019t thought about it,” Cotton said on SEN SA at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still honestly processing that this thing is actually official, \u2019cause I\u2019m so used to hearing there\u2019s a catch to it or it\u2019s a delay.<\/p>\n
“So I\u2019ll cross that bridge once this finally sets in.<\/p>\n
“(The ceremony) I believe (is) relatively soon. I think we\u2019re just trying to set up a date for the ceremony, but yeah, I think that\u2019s gonna be pretty soon.”<\/p>\n
But in an exclusive interview with Jason Cadee on Cut to the Jase in March, Cotton revealed he had spoken to Boomers head coach Adam Capon.<\/p>\n
