{"id":670095,"date":"2026-05-14T09:22:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T09:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/670095\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T09:22:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T09:22:11","slug":"two-hantavirus-contact-cases-isolated-at-bordeaux-hospital-as-france-tracks-22-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/670095\/","title":{"rendered":"Two hantavirus contact cases isolated at Bordeaux hospital as France tracks 22 cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"subtitle \" style=\"\">Authorities hopeful that virus has not mutated, easing pandemic fears<\/p>\n<p>\n        The couple will spend at least 14 days in isolation at the hospital<br \/>\n        ricochet64\/Shutterstock\n    <\/p>\n<p>A couple from Vienne are among the 22 hantavirus \u2018contact cases\u2019 recorded in France and have been isolated at a hospital facility in Bordeaux.<\/p>\n<p>The couple will remain in the facility \u2013 the Pellegrin Hospital \u2013 for a minimum of 14 days while their condition is assessed, but this period may be extended.<\/p>\n<p>The couple are currently not showing symptoms of the virus, but are undergoing a quarantine as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/news\/updates-on-hantavirus-case-hospitalised-in-france-and-contact-cases\/790183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">emergency rules laid out in a decree at the start of the week<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The location of one of the other contact cases was reported to be Concarneau (Finist\u00e8re) by French media, with the man \u2013 who identified himself to authorities \u2013 subsequently being transferred to a hospital in Rennes.<\/p>\n<p>Another contact case was confirmed to live in Juan-les-Pins (Alpes-Maritimes) and has been transferred to a hospital in Marseille.<\/p>\n<p>Health Minister St\u00e9phanie Rist announced yesterday that all 22 contact cases had been identified and tested for the Andes-strain of hantarivus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These individuals came into contact with a Dutch woman who was unaware she had the disease on one of two flights, between Saint Helena and Johannesburg and Johannesburg &#8211; Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong those who were first hospitalised, they do not have any clinical symptoms\u2026 there is no evidence of virus transmission within the country,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Five French nationals who were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/news\/french-national-tests-positive-for-hantavirus-on-arrival-in-france\/789935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">on board the MV Hondius cruise ship where the outbreak was first reported<\/a> are isolating at a health facility in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Among them, one woman is seriously ill after testing positive for the illness.<\/p>\n<p>Initial investigations and tests of passengers affected by the Andes-strain hantavirus indicate that the virus has not mutated, with Ms Rist saying authorities should be able to confirm this \u201cwith certainty,\u201d in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>Health authorities were initially concerned that a mutated form of the virus could see the disease transmitted more easily between humans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Authorities hopeful that virus has not mutated, easing pandemic fears The couple will spend at least 14 days&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":670096,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[64,63,137,500],"class_list":["post-670095","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-health","tag-healthcare"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/670095","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=670095"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/670095\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/670096"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=670095"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=670095"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=670095"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
