Ensure every day at the gym, Tim is coming in to do something he loves.

“It’s all about the athlete knowing he’s cared for.

“And I think Wayne Bennett is the greatest ever advocate for that in the NRL. He’s the Johnny Lewis of rugby league.

“You can’t not love those people because they love you. They want you to be happy, want your family to be happy … which is why their athletes then arrive at training ready to give 100 per cent.”

Fenech confirmed it was a similar discussion with former Socceroos boss Arnold.

“Graham and I, we also had a massive conversation and, again, it was about eliminating all distractions, right down to things like social media,” Fenech said.

“Which I absolutely agree with. I don’t care how good you are, you can’t have distractions.

“Even with the team Graham has now in Iraq, he’s eliminated all distractions. And it’s right down to the point where, if any problem can be solved without a players’ intervention, it’s done … you don’t give them anything else to think about.”

Fenech stressed a crucial part of all this involves taking Tszyu to Bangkok for three weeks, while also confirming he was incredibly pleased to see the fighter’s proposed lawsuit with former manager Glen Jennings resolved.

Tim Tszyu with Jeff Fenech. Picture: Jonathan NgSource: News Corp Australia

“Going to Bangkok,” Fenech continued, “will ensure Tim comes back a completely different person.

“Because another thing Graham Arnold and I spoke about was the importance of getting Tim right mentally.

“Getting him understanding not only what we need to do, but how we’ll get there.

“It means starting each day having breakfast together, training, watching video … and when we do train, it’s about getting more done in one hour together than he used to get done in three.

“We’ve started up this week and, even over the first couple of days, things have been falling into place nicely.”

Asked about doing the majority of camp in Sydney, Fenech continued: “I just want Tim to be happy.

“I don’t want him locked up, away from his family.

“For me, being around family is more important that trying to play the role of some tough guy who has to get away from everyone to do things.

“All of which means this camp is going to be a lot different to anything he’s done in the past.

“But when I speak with Johnny it’s the same message: make sure every day your fighter leaves the gym, he wants to come back again.

“And I can tell you, that’s definitely how I felt with him.

“[Laughs] First day at Newtown, I got the absolute s*** punched out of me.

“But Johnny, he said he saw something in me. So I left wanting to go back the next day to get the s*** beat out of me again …”

Asked specifically about what the Bangkok leg of camp will entail, Fenech added: “We just want to set ourselves a foundation.

“We’re going there with a process, a plan, so that by the time we get back to Sydney we then step up our sparring, plus everything else, and go from there.

“Errol Spence is going to be the best fighter Tim has ever fought. We know that and we’re planning accordingly.

“Of course, we’ve already watched tape of Errol Spence. And we’ll watch plenty more.

“But it’s also important to remember, this is about Tim Tszyu.

“And about how Tim makes Errol Spence fight different. Because when we do that, we know Tim will be very, very successful.”

Tim Tszyu’s preparations for his July blockbuster against Errol Spence Jnr are set to begin in Bangkok, Thailand…

[571
64,63,802,85
post-672234","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-boxing","tag-sports
["GET
