{"id":673307,"date":"2026-05-15T20:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T20:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/673307\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T20:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T20:38:11","slug":"jack-miller-yamaha-making-headway-with-v4-razgatlioglu-on-ice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/673307\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack Miller: Yamaha \u201cmaking headway\u201d with V4, Razgatlioglu \u201con ice\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresh from Fabio Quartararo giving Yamaha\u2019s new V4 its strongest MotoGP weekend yet at Le Mans, two Yamaha riders secured direct Qualifying 2 places in Catalunya on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This time it wasn\u2019t Quartararo leading the way, but Pramac\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1452\/jack-miller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Miller<\/a>, who lapped just 0.2s from the top for ninth place on the timesheets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you say two tenths and ninth, it doesn&#8217;t even sound real!\u201d smiled Miller, speaking to MotoGP.com after the session.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt good from the get-go here in Barcelona. It&#8217;s one of the tracks we&#8217;ve been to that I&#8217;ve ridden the V4 at before, so we kind of had a rough idea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, it&#8217;s quite a different bike now from what we rode last year. \u00a0But in general, happy with the day, happy with the pace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen for the single lap attack, I was able to put Bez in front of me and really get the hammer down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gng_1312766_hires_1600x900.jpg\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Jack Miller, 2026 Catalunya MotoGP.\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.78\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Jack Miller, 2026 Catalunya MotoGP.<\/p>\n<p> \u00a9\u00a0Gold and Goose<\/p>\n<p>However, the V4&#8217;s lack of engine performance remains a hindrance on the main straight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we&#8217;re still missing some straight-line speed. I think we&#8217;re about 11,-12 k an hour down in the speed trap, but thankfully here you&#8217;re only really using the power on the main straight,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rest of the track, because there&#8217;s no grip, you&#8217;re just trying to find traction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether with the boys, from the get-go today we&#8217;ve kind of been able to find that window and keep the bike in that window.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally nice to be heading into a Saturday, not going into Q1. It helps the weekend out a lot if you can be in Q2 and start just those couple extra positions in front.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miller\u2019s performance came just days after Quartararo guided the V4 to a best-yet sixth place in the French Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re making headway, absolutely,\u201d said the Australian. \u201cI don&#8217;t know what anybody else expected. Rome wasn&#8217;t built in a day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to take trial and error, testing and tweaking, and trying to do the best we can, both on the race weekends and with Augusto and Dovi in the test team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it&#8217;s only a Friday, but it&#8217;s a little breath of fresh air after what&#8217;s been a really trying time for all the engineers involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gng_1313869_hires_1600x900.jpg\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Toprak Razgatlioglu, 2026 Catalan MotoGP.\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.78\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Toprak Razgatlioglu, 2026 Catalan MotoGP.<\/p>\n<p> \u00a9\u00a0Gold and Goose<\/p>\n<p>  Razgatlioglu: \u201cIncredible &#8211; but not in a good way\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/wsbk\/racer\/995265\/toprak-razgatlioglu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toprak Razgatlioglu <\/a>was 19th fastest, but just 0.821s from the KTM practice leader Pedro Acosta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning was incredible &#8211; but not in a good way &#8211; because honestly I felt like I had zero grip,\u201d revealed the WorldSBK champion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt like I was riding on ice. I even came back to the pits and asked the team, \u2019What is this? Is there a problem with the bike or is the track always like this?\u2018<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in the end I had to accept that this is simply how the track is. Everybody is riding in the same conditions and I need to adapt better to it. So I went back out and tried to improve step by step.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI followed Fabio for a while and honestly I learned a lot from watching how he approached the corners.
