After the semifinals earlier this week, the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here’s what you need to know before the singers take to the stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What time is the Eurovision grand final?<\/p>\n

The grand final kicks off at 9pm in Vienna, Austria.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the time difference, that’ll be very early on Sunday morning here in Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria: 5am AESTNorthern Territory and South Australia: 4:30am ACSTWestern Australia: 3am AWSTWhat channel is Eurovision on?<\/p>\n

You’ll be able to watch it on SBS and stream it on SBS On Demand.<\/p>\n

How do I vote in Eurovision?<\/p>\n

You’ll be able to vote at the Eurovision website<\/a>, with voting opening a few minutes before the live show begins on Sunday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You have to pay to vote, with each vote costing 70 cents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You’ll be able to cast up to 10 votes, but the website warns that you’ll only be able to submit your votes once per payment card.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oh, and one really important rule, you’re not allowed to vote for your own country, so we won’t be able to do anything to get Australia’s contestant into the top spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Who is representing Australia in Eurovision?<\/p>\n

Delta Goodrem.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old has been a mainstay in Australian pop culture since joining the cast of Neighbours as Nina Tucker in 2002.<\/p>\n

Her debut album, Innocent Eyes<\/a>, came out a year later with five number one singles, including Born to Try, Lost Without You and Not Me Not I.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She has gone on to release eight more albums, star in the Australian run of the musical Cats, coach rising stars on The Voice and portray Olivia Newton-John in a biopic about the singer’s life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Goodrem has a new album due out later this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is Delta Goodrem’s song about?<\/p>\n

Goodrem is performing a song called Eclipse<\/a>, which was released in March and reached number one on the Australian AIR Independent Singles Chart.<\/p>\n

It was co-written by Goodrem along with Ferras Alqaisi, Jonas Myrin and Michael Fatkin.<\/p>\n

A big feature of her performance is a gold, sparkly piano, which has its own in-built podium.<\/p>\n

Goodrem told SBS the song could mean a bunch of different things to different people, speaking to themes including connection, timing and alignment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“You could take it as a love song,” she said.<\/p>\n

“You could take it about the timing of love or your time in your own life that aligns when time is meant to be.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“And that’s when eclipse happens.”<\/p>\n

Why is Australia in Eurovision?<\/p>\n

In short, Australia is in Eurovision because Australian broadcaster SBS has been such a big supporter of the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s been covering the contest since 1983, but Australian acts have only been taking the stage for 12 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Australian pop star Jessica Mauboy was invited to be a guest singer during the interval of the 2014 show<\/a>, but she wasn’t officially a contestant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The following year, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) invited Australia to compete as a wildcard entry for the contest’s 60th birthday, based on the theme “building bridges”.<\/p>\n

We sent Guy Sebastian to compete and he placed fifth.<\/p>\n

After this success, the SBS\u00a0struck a deal with the EBU for Australia to stay on the bill until 2023.<\/p>\n

There was a question mark about Australia’s future in the contest after Eurovision 2023, but we’ve been invited to compete each year since then<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perth band Voyager represented Australia in 2023, then it was Electric Fields in 2024 and Go-Jo last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dami Im is Australia’s highest-ranking Eurovision contestant, with the Brisbane-based singer coming second with her goosebumps-inducing ballad Sound of Silence in 2016.<\/a><\/p>\n
