Walker Buehler (3-2) allowed two runs in five innings as San Diego improved to 5-0 this season against its West Coast rival. The Padres clinched the season series on Friday to secure the Vedder Cup, named after Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who has ties to both cities.<\/p>\n
Dur\u00e1n, a 28-year-old catcher who spent 11 seasons in the minors, hit a two-run shot in the seventh to end a rough night for Logan Gilbert (2-4). DETROIT \u2014 Daulton Varsho drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 10th inning and Yohendrick Pinango homered to lead Toronto to a victory over Detroit.<\/p>\n
Varsho lined a 1-1 pitch from Tigers reliever Tyler Holton (0-2) into center field, allowing Vladimir Guerrero to score.<\/p>\n
Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland (2-1) pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Toronto used six pitchers who struck out 14.<\/p>\n
The Tigers, who were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, had a chance to win it in the ninth inning with Riley Greene on third and two outs, but Varland struck out Colt Keith.<\/p>\n
The first five innings turned into a showcase of pitching and defense, with both teams turning in highlight-reel defensive plays. Toronto third baseman Kazuma Okamoto bobbled a catch in foul territory before recovering to snag the ball barehanded for a remarkable out.<\/p>\n
Greene later raced toward the line and made a sliding grab on a foul ball, preserving the scoreless duel as neither offense could break through early.<\/p>\n

The Stephen F. Austin club baseball team attended Friday\u2019s game and caused a sensation by the players took off their shirts and waved them like a helicopter. The team returned in the fourth inning Saturday after winning a game earlier in the National Club Baseball Division II World Series in nearby Alton, Illinois.<\/p>\n

McCarthy, who played for Arizona from 2021-25, singled in the second inning to make it 3-1. He had at least one hit for the 14th time in Colorado\u2019s past 18 games. Over that stretch, he\u2019s hitting .375.<\/p>\n
Hunter Goodman, Brenton Doyle and Willi Castro also had two hits apiece for the Rockies, and Mickey Moniak had his team-leading 27th and 28th RBIs. The Rockies had lost 11 of their previous 14 games, including five of their past six.<\/p>\n
Moniak\u2019s second RBI came on a hit-by-pitch from Arizona left-hander Brandyn Garcia in the eighth inning with the bases loaded.<\/p>\n

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 Liam Hicks had a two-run RBI single in an eight-run 10th inning and Miami ended Tampa Bay Rays\u2019 11-game home winning streak with a victory.<\/p>\n
Jakob Marsee added three hits and Javier Sanoja had four RBI for the Marlins.<\/p>\n
Hicks, who entered the game tied for the major league lead in RBIs, hit a single through a drawn-in infield off Hunter Bigge (1-1) to break a 2-2 tie.<\/p>\n
Bigge gave up all eight runs, seven earned, with six hits and two walks in the 10th.<\/p>\n

Jacob Young and Brady House also homered for the Nationals, who were 0-15 in games in which they were a win away from a .500 record after being 20-20 on May 14, 2024. They won the first game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox that day, but lost the nightcap \u2014 and have been trying to reach .500 again since.<\/p>\n
Cavalli (2-2) carried a shutout into the seventh inning before allowing back-to-back solo home runs to Samuel Bassallo and Tyler O\u2019Neill. It was the second time in his 21 career starts, and first this season, that the right-hander pitched into the seventh. Cavalli allowed three runs, eight hits and struck out eight.<\/p>\n
Ruiz, who was a triple shy of the cycle, hit a three-run homer off Chris Bassitt (3-3) to give the Nationals a 3-0 lead in the second. It was the Nationals catcher\u2019s third home run in his last five games.<\/p>\n
Clinging to a 4-3 lead entering the seventh, the Nationals broke it open with seven runs. House hit an RBI double and scored on a fielder\u2019s choice. Ruiz added to his big day at the plate with a two-run double. Young hit a three-run homer to make it 11-3.<\/p>\n
House added a two-run homer in the eighth to cap the big day for Washington\u2019s offense.<\/p>\n
Bassitt allowed four runs and six hits in five innings for Baltimore.<\/p>\n
ATLANTA \u2014 Willson Contreras hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to help Boston beat Atlanta.<\/p>\n
Red Sox rookie left-hander Payton Tolle (2-2) gave up two runs over a season-high eight innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. The Red Sox are 15-1 when their starters pitch at least six innings.<\/p>\n
Aroldis Chapman moved into a tie for 10th place with his 377th career save. He survived a throwing error with two outs and the bases empty by shortstop Andruw Monasterio, who was in\u00a0for the injured Trevor Story.<\/p>\n
Chapman walked Mauricio Dub\u00f3n and Michael Harris II to load the bases. Ha-Seong Kim then hit a hard ground ball off Chapman, who scrambled off the mound and tossed the ball to first to end it.<\/p>\n

CLEVELAND \u2014 Angel Mart\u00ednez hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning, Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez moved into sixth place in franchise history for hits, Cleveland beat Cincinnati.<\/p>\n
Mart\u00ednez hit a double in the sixth and Steven Kwan scored soon after on a wild pitch. Mart\u00ednez added a 395-foot shot in the following inning to put Cleveland up 6-4.<\/p>\n
Ram\u00edrez tied Lou Boudreau for sixth in franchise history in hits at 1,706 with a leadoff single in the fifth before claiming sole possession of sixth with another single in the eighth. Ram\u00edrez scored Cleveland\u2019s final run on a fielding error in the bottom of the eighth.<\/p>\n
Brayan Rocchio drove in the Guardians\u2019 first two runs with a single in the second.<\/p>\n
Dane Myers hit his third homer of the year in the third inning and Sal Stewart drew a walk to bring in a run in the fifth to tie it at 2-2.<\/p>\n

HOUSTON \u2014 Yordan Alvarez hit his 15th homer and Houston matched a season high with four longballs in a win over the Rangers that left Texas\u2019 Jacob deGrom stuck at 99 career wins.<\/p>\n
Jose Altuve sent deGrom\u2019s third pitch of the game into the Crawford Boxes in left field for the 42nd leadoff homer of his career. Alvarez also went deep in the first.<\/p>\n
Altuve left the game in the ninth inning with an undisclosed injury.<\/p>\n
Christian Walker opened the third inning with his 11th homer, and with two outs, Zach Cole homered to make it 4-0.<\/p>\n
DeGrom (3-3) allowed four homers for just the second time in 257 career starts. The first time was on April 22, 2017, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He surrendered just one other hit over six innings and did not walk a batter.<\/p>\n
Kai-Wei Teng (2-3) struck out seven over five scoreless innings. It was the third time in Teng\u2019s career he\u2019s completed five innings, and his 76 pitches were a career high.<\/p>\n
CHICAGO \u2014 Munetaka Murakami homered twice and drove in three runs, helping the Chicago White Sox beat the Chicago Cubs.<\/p>\n
Miguel Vargas, Colson Montgomery and Andrew Benintendi also connected as the White Sox improved to 6-2 on a nine-game homestand.\u00a0Davis Martin\u00a0(6-1) struck out seven while pitching six innings of one-run ball.<\/p>\n
Murakami\u2019s solo drive to center made it 4-0 in the third inning. The Japanese slugger added his 17th homer in the fifth, a two-run shot to center off Jameson Taillon that traveled an estimated 428 feet.<\/p>\n
It was Murakami\u2019s first career multihomer game. The rookie batted .158 (3 for 19) with no homers, seven strikeouts and six walks in his previous six games.<\/p>\n

With a reliever warming up in the bullpen, Sanchez struck out Marcell Ozuna to reach 13 strikeouts for the first time and then retired Nick Yorke on a groundball to end it.<\/p>\n
