Carlton veteran Mitch McGovern is set to start looking for a new home in the AFL<\/a> after being snubbed at the selection table, ensuring he will fall short of a contract trigger.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old needed to be recalled for the last two games of the Blues\u2019 season to be assured of his future at the club for 2026.<\/p>\n

But despite putting up strong numbers in the VFL, he has been overlooked by coach Michael Voss for Saturday\u2019s clash with Port Adelaide and could now depart the club as a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlues could still come to the party with a deal but expect him to start looking elsewhere,\u201d 7NEWS Melbourne\u2019s Mitch Cleary reported.<\/p>\n

McGovern had tallied 17 appearances this season until he was undone by a hamstring injury last month.<\/p>\n

Voss\u2019s decision not to pick McGovern and guarantee his future comes after the coach was backed in for the final year of his contract by new CEO Graham Wright.<\/p>\n

The club then announced long-time football boss Brad Lloyd would depart at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Notably, Wright then declared Carlton simply \u201chaven\u2019t got enough good players\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to get better, whether that be through the draft or trade or free agency or however we possibly can, we\u2019ll be exploring everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Blues are up against it to retain Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni but are confident their big five of Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow, Jacob Weitering, Sam Walsh and Harry McKay will all stick around.<\/p>\n

Curnow, contracted until 2029, has previously hosed down links to Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got four years to go, required player,\u201d Wright said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke to him this morning in a meeting we had … with all the players and staff, when we were talking about Brad.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s recovering from his knee (surgery), looking to have a couple of weeks overseas at some stage and having a big pre-season. So I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sam Walsh has been recalled to face Port rather than remaining on ice for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

The star midfielder has not played since Round 13 because of a foot injury.<\/p>\n
