It may depend on whom you ask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OPINION \u2014 There\u2019s a\u00a0new space race\u00a0to the Moon, and this time the ambitions are not just to visit but to stay.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/humans-in-space\/artemis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NASA\u2019s Artemis program<\/a>\u00a0aims to establish a long-term human presence on the lunar surface in the 2030s.\u00a0China, India, Japan and a number of private companies\u00a0all have lunar mission programs of their own.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, the human footprint on the Moon is small. That could change with the\u00a0planned increase of lunar missions.<\/p>\n<p>National space agencies are focused on science and exploration, while private companies aim to develop a lunar economy \u2014 potentially with\u00a0mining operations. In the coming years, these groups will test technology and build some\u00a0initial infrastructure\u00a0on the Moon.
