Despite growing pressure on his position, Scott, contracted until the end of 2027, expects Essendon to see through its plan under his lead and insisted there were no markers he had to hit. <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone has been part of that strategy and plan …. our president and CEO were on the board when the strategy was put together,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo they are all in on it. But I don\u2019t think like that (on whether he has the club\u2019s backing). It\u2019s just unhelpful.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy job is to lead this strategy through and I just do my job. I don\u2019t worry too much about what might happen in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bombers coach said criticism on whether the club \u201cknows where we\u2019re at\u201d is \u201csomewhat interesting to me\u201d after it\u2019s made a clear plan to prioritise the draft over trade and free agency for multiple years.<\/p>\n
Scott was unwavering in his commitment to the long-term scheme. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe made a very, very conscious decision at the end of 2023 that we needed to reset our list. We went to the draft … it\u2019s crystal clear what we did at the end of 2023,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe also made some changes to the older players to our list. To the point where we won\u2019t have a player retire, at least voluntarily, for the next two or three years at least.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it takes a special kind of lunatic to lead this sort of thing. If you weren\u2019t focused on the club\u2019s future and it was just about you and your position, you\u2019d have a very different strategy.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019d go and get as many experienced and high-quality played as you could for the short term. We didn\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI fully endorse that strategy and support it. I\u2019m tasked with the responsibility of leading it and I intend to see it through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite building impatience from Essendon fans, Scott said he hoped they could see the vision that\u2019s been set up. <\/p>\n
\u201cHow could they not be impatient?,\u201d Scott posed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing I can do about the previous 25 years. What I cam do is help set that strategy and lead that strategy from the end of 2023 through.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe supporters can get really excited watching Sullivan Robey, Jacob Farrow, Dyson Sharp, Isaac Kako, Nate Caddy and Archie Roberts. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re the guys we brought in the last couple of years and they\u2019re the guys who are going to help lead us into our future.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe could\u2019ve adopted a very different strategy. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s certainly no disrespect, but if you go back to the last 12 years at Essendon, maybe it\u2019s because we\u2019re a big club, maybe it\u2019s because the club felt we had to be really bold and aggressive and bounce out of the supplements saga. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut we\u2019ve done it repeatedly; we\u2019ve traded away picks, we\u2019ve bought in players from other clubs and we haven\u2019t gone to the draft on a consistent basis. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what we decided to do at the end of 2023 and that\u2019s what our supporters can hang their hat on.
