Shakira has been acquitted in her tax fraud case after an \u201ceight-year ordeal\u201d \u2014 and she\u2019s receiving a massive payout as a result.<\/p>\n

Not only is the Grammy winner being reimbursed for the $89.4 million fine imposed in 2021, but she is getting an additional sum to cover fines and interest.<\/p>\n

The songwriter will receive more than $97 million, Reuters reported<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

The judge ruled that authorities did not prove Shakira spent more than 183 days in Spain \u200bin 2011, the requirement for being considered a tax resident.<\/p>\n

The singer, 49, celebrated the win \u2014 and insisted \u201cthere was never any fraud\u201d \u2014 in a statement to TMZ<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n

It read, \u201cAfter more than eight years of enduring brutal public targeting, orchestrated campaigns to destroy my reputation and sleepless nights that ultimately impacted my health and my family\u2019s wellbeing, the National High Court has finally set the record straight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her lawyer, Jose Luis Prada, added, \u201c[The victory] comes after an eight-year ordeal that has taken an \u200bunacceptable toll, reflecting a \u200black of rigour \u2060in administrative practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tax agency, however, reportedly plans to appeal with the Supreme Court \u2014 and will not pay Shakira until the final ruling.<\/p>\n

Shakira\u2019s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six<\/a>\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

The performer\u2019s legal battle, notably, began when she was indicted in 2018 and she has maintained her innocence ever since.<\/p>\n

Although Shakira denied skipping out on $11.3 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014, she struck up a deal with the Spanish government on her first day of trial in November 2023.<\/p>\n

After settling for $20 million, Shakira wrote that she did so \u201cwith the best interest of [her] kids at heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, did \u201cnot want to see their mum sacrifice her personal wellbeing in this fight,\u201d she explained in a statement.<\/p>\n

In a Mundo essay the following year, Shakira doubled down on making the choice to \u201cprotect\u201d her and ex Gerard Pique\u2018s sons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need them to know that I made the decisions I made to protect them, to be by their side and to get on with my life,\u201d she wrote in September 2024. \u201cNot out of cowardice or guilt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legal war aside, Shakira made headlines earlier this month for being tapped as one of the FIFA World Cup 2026 halftime show performers, alongside Madonna and K-pop band BTS.<\/p>\n

Fans, meanwhile, raged against the decision and insisted they \u201cdon\u2019t want\u201d a halftime show, calling the decision an attempt to \u201cmake everything americanified.\u201d<\/p>\n
