The only man to have shared the ring with both Australia’s Tim Tszyu and American superstar Errol Spence Jr. believes he already knows who will get their hand raised when the pair finally collide later this year.

The comments come as Spence’s new coach Ronnie Shields revealed what has surprised him most about “The Truth” since the former unified welterweight king returned to training camp.

Tszyu v Spence Jr. | Sunday July 26 from 11am AEST | Tim Tszyu takes on the biggest name in his career so far – future hall-of-famer Errol Spence Jr, in a can’t miss event for boxing fans around the world. | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports.

Spence is set to end a three-year layoff when he faces Tszyu in a blockbuster Australian showdown on July 26, with the venue still yet to be confirmed.

Mexican fighter Carlos Ocampo – who challenged Spence for the IBF welterweight world title in 2018 before facing Tszyu in Australia five years later – gave a brief prediction to Fox Sports Australia, backing the Sydneysider to get the job done.

“I think it will be a comfortable fight for Tim,” Ocampo said.

“I see him winning.”

While Ocampo expects Tszyu to do enough to claim victory, he doesn’t believe the Australian will stop Spence – unlike Terence Crawford did in Spence’s last outing.

“I think it will go to a decision in a very close fight,” he said.

Yet inside Spence’s camp, confidence appears to be growing.

Sparring partner and former world champion Brian Norman Jr. has already spoken about Spence pushing a relentless pace in the gym.

Now, Shields has revealed he has been impressed by the condition the former unified champion has returned in following his lengthy layoff.

“Surprisingly to me, after being off for three years, he looks really great,” Shields told FightHype.

“I told him from the beginning, ‘I want to see what you’ve got’.

“I said, ‘I’m going to push you hard’, and he said, ‘I’m ready’.

“That let me know he’s been working out and staying on top of his conditioning. That’s what I really wanted to see.

“I pushed him fast and hard, and he hung right in there.

“I said, ‘You’re good’, and now we’ll come up with a game plan and work on that.”

Many in the boxing world have debated whether the three-year layoff will ultimately help or hinder “The Big Fish”, particularly given the added toll of injuries he sustained in a car crash in 2019.

But Shields believes the break may ultimately extend Spence’s career.

“Every fighter is different,” says Shields.

“For Errol, he’s switched up a whole lot of things in his life.

“Now he’s more focussed on how he eats, what he eats, he doesn’t party or anything of that stuff.

“He’s just added more time to his career by doing that.”

When asked how he compares to the younger Spence.

“He looks really good,” said Shields.

“Until we go through a full camp I don’t know. We will have to wait and see…”

Shields also paid respect to Tszyu’s durability and mentality ahead of the showdown.

“Tim Tszyu is a really good fighter, he’ll fight anybody,” he said.

“You can’t take that away from him.

“He’s got a lot of heart. It definitely plays a big factor in the sport of boxing.”

Spence’s preparations will have also been buoyed by the form of his sparring partner, Brian Norman Jr., who produced an emphatic performance over the weekend with a dominant victory over Josh Wagner.

The former world champ looked sharp from the opening bell claiming a second round TKO win, backing up his recent claims about the intensity in camp.

Just days earlier, Norman had also made a bold prediction of his own, tipping Spence to stop Tszyu inside the first round.

“We’re going to see a different version of Errol Spence,” he told FightHype.

“I feel like he’s going to be better than he was in the past.

“And what I mean by that is, first round knockout coming soon.

“Tim Tszyu is going to sleep, man.

Spence Jr. vows all-out war with Tszyu | 13:36

“The boy ain’t got nothing for him. My boy coming to Australia to give him the work, you feel me?

“Errol Spence is going to be a great fighter (again). I’ve seen him in camp, hell of a fighter.”

The only man to have shared the ring with both Australia’s Tim Tszyu and American superstar Errol Spence…

[571
64,63,802,85
post-679634","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-boxing","tag-sports
["GET
