A 91-year-old man has been rescued after a deadly earthquake caused buildings to collapse and forced thousands in China\u2019s<\/a> south to evacuate to safety.<\/p>\n

The man was taken to hospital in a stable condition after he was recovered from the same disaster site when a couple were confirmed to have died early on Monday, state media reports.<\/p>\n

The 5.2-magnitude quake struck in the city of Liuzhou, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, just before 12.30am local time.<\/p>\n

The pair killed have been identified as a 53-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man.<\/p>\n

Four others were taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.<\/p>\n

The morning quake brought down 13 buildings, with 7000 people forced to flee to safety.<\/p>\n

National and regional emergency response teams had worked through the night to understand the full extent of the damage and find the missing 91-year-old.<\/p>\n

Excavators were brought in to clear debris.<\/p>\n

The quake struck at a depth of eight kilometres, and tremors were felt in nearby cities.<\/p>\n

State media reports that power, water and gas supplies have not been impacted and are operating normally.<\/p>\n

Liuzhou is home to more than four million people.<\/p>\n
