A woman has appeared in court over the death of a man she allegedly attacked in what police described as a “road rage” incident on the NSW South Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Eliza Wellington was originally charged with reckless grievous bodily harm after allegedly assaulting 79-year-old David Perry at Vincentia on March 17.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to a shopping centre car park on Moona Creek Road, where they found Mr Perry with a serious head injury after an alleged altercation with the 32-year-old woman.<\/p>\n
A statement by NSW Police said officers were called to a “road rage incident” involving the occupants of a Toyota Corolla who attempted to speak to the female driver of a Ford Territory.<\/p>\n
It is alleged Ms Wellington assaulted Mr Perry at the scene, causing him to fall.<\/p>\n
Mr Perry was taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition, but died in hospital less than a month later on April 13.<\/p>\n
Ms Wellington had been released on conditional bail, but was served with a court attendance notice detailing a second charge of assault occasioning death.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In Nowra Local Court today, a lawyer representing the 32-year-old attempted to have the matter heard without Ms Wellington being present in the court.<\/p>\n
Judge Julie Zaki stood the matter down, insisting that Ms Wellington appear in court.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“She has to be here. Why isn’t she here?” Judge Zaki said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some minutes later, Ms Wellinginton entered the courtroom flanked by supporters and wearing a jumper over her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She appeared to close her eyes while the matter was discussed in court, resting her head on the shoulder of a female supporter for the duration of the proceedings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Several members of Mr Perry’s family, including his son and grandchildren, watched from the public gallery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Noting the new charges, Judge Zaki adjourned the matter for a brief service mention and continued Ms Wellington’s bail.<\/p>\n
