LCR MotoGP rider Johann Zarco says he was \u201cscreaming in pain\u201d in his scary crash at the Catalan Grand Prix, as he admits he is \u201cmad at myself for taking second start\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last Sunday\u2019s Barcelona round of the 2026 season was marred by two major incidents, with the race initially stopped for a collision between Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta.<\/p>\n

Gresini\u2019s Marquez was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery on Sunday night, but has now left hospital and returned home.<\/a><\/p>\n

When the race was restarted, Johann Zarco crashed with Luca Marini and Pecco Bagnaia at Turn 1, and got his leg stuck in the latter\u2019s Ducati as it bounced through the gravel trap.<\/p>\n

Zarco was also taken to hospital, but has now returned home to begin recovery having escaped serious injury.<\/a><\/p>\n

The race was restarted again, with VR46\u2019s Fabio Di Giannantonio winning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t in the zone anymore when we lined up on the grid again\u201d<\/p>\n

Zarco provided a brief update on his situation from hospital on Sunday night, noting that he had suffered \u201cmore scare than harm\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with France\u2019s L\u2019Equipe, Zarco regrets taking the restart at Barcelona, having been \u201cbrought down\u201d by bruising to his foot from the Marquez\/Acosta crash and the images from the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy foot was already purple,\u201d he told L\u2019Equipe\u2019s Michel Turco.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe put ice on the bruise, and the pain subsided a bit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when I should have made the decision to pull out of the rest of the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cBetween the images of Alex\u2019s crash and that blow to my foot, it really brought me down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t in the zone anymore when we lined up on the grid again.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI\u2019m mad at myself for taking that second start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talking about the crash itself, Zarco gave a chilling recount of being stuck in the gravel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got sucked in by Marini and couldn’t stop in time to avoid him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went tumbling with his bike, and my left leg got pinned between the wheel, the seat, and the exhaust.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m stuck in the gravel trap, screaming in pain, my leg is starting to burn, and everyone rushing over to me is afraid to touch me for fear of making my injuries worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I pulled on my leg, and they finally helped me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey immobilised me, cut open my suit, and gave me an IV to stop the pain… I\u2019d never been through anything like that, and it was downright terrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n
