Red Bull – BORA Hansgrohe appear to be struck with an illness crisis at the Giro d’Italia<\/a> following Giulio Pellizzari<\/a> reporting stomach issues on stage 9. The Italian, who is co-leader with Jai Hindley<\/a>, confirmed that he is suffering with an illness that now seems to have affected Hindley, Giuanni Moscon and other teammates.<\/p>\n

Pellizzari shipped considerable time on stage 9 on Sunday’s ascent of Corno alle Scale, and begins the second week in ninth place overall, +5:15 down on pink jersey Afonso Eul\u00e1lio<\/p>\n

Gazzetta dello Sport reports<\/a> that it’s not only Pellizzari that has been affected by stomach problems, but now Hindley, Moscon and several other team members are suffering issues.<\/p>\n

The problem reportedly reached the stage where neither general classification leaders took to their time trial bikes on Monday’s rest day to prepare for stage 10. The team have not officially confirmed that Hindley and others have been affected.<\/p>\n

Pellizzari feels ‘a little better’<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel a little bit better, not a lot better,\u201d Pellizzari told La Gazzetta ahead of stage 10. \u201cI\u2019ll try to hang in there. I won\u2019t give up.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comments were also echoed by his coach Sylwester Szmyd, who highlighted that there’s a long way to in this year’s Giro and that the virus could pass.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have to see how he wakes up,\u201d Szmyd told Gazzetta dello Sport. \u201cHe didn\u2019t ride on Monday. Everything depends on his sensations. If he doesn\u2019t feel well, he\u2019ll need to save the day like he did at Corno alle Scale. But Giulio is in some of the best condition of his life. A virus passes, and the Giro is still long.\u201d<\/p>\n

It could be a challenging day for Red Bull – BORA Hansgrohe however, with a long time trial forming an effort of the best part of an hour.
