A private apprehended violence order (AVO) application against NSW independent MP Mark Latham that was initiated by his former partner has been withdrawn.<\/p>\n

Neither Mr Latham nor Nathalie Matthews attended court for what was expected to be the beginning of a three-day hearing in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Instead, the judge was told the application was being withdrawn by consent.<\/p>\n

Outside court, Mr Latham’s lawyer Zali Burrows said it was “a good result” and there was no order as to costs.<\/p>\n

Asked how her client felt about the result, she replied: “You’ll have to ask him.”<\/p>\n

Ms Matthews had sought the AVO over allegations of a “sustained pattern” of domestic abuse and pressuring her to engage in “degrading sex acts”.<\/p>\n

Mr Latham has always denied the untested allegations and was not charged with any criminal offence.<\/p>\n

A possible end to the proceedings was foreshadowed in October, when Ms Matthews’s lawyer withdrew a request for an interim order until the hearing on a permanent order took place.<\/p>\n
