Google announced their XR (Extended Reality) platform at I\/O last year, teasing smart glasses and the platform. this year we\u2019re getting more details<\/a> on the glasses themselves, with a launch window of \u2018Fall 2026\u2019 announced.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To start with, Google is handling all the XR Platform with Samsung doing the heavy lifting on the hardware \u2013 while partners, eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker are doing the design work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first glasses we\u2019ll see will be audio-only, with versions offering a display set to launch possibly next year. While the first device won\u2019t include a display, all the glasses appear to include a camera \u2013 which will allow Gemini on-board to answer questions about what you see, or help with navigation.<\/p>\n

As far as other features on the Audio-only glasses go, Google says we\u2019ll see:<\/p>\n

Ask about what you see: Ask Gemini about anything you see. Find reviews for the restaurant you\u2019re walking past, learn the name of that cloud formation up above or quickly decode a confusing parking sign.<\/p>\n

Navigate with ease: Glasses know where you\u2019re standing and which direction you\u2019re facing, so they\u2019ll give you natural, turn-by-turn directions. Gemini can also add stops to your route or find nearby restaurants based on your preferences.<\/p>\n

Stay connected, hands-free: Manage calls, send texts and have Gemini summarize missed messages without reaching for your phone. Or ask to listen to music that complements your environment \u2014 all on crisp, clear and private over-ear speakers.<\/p>\n

Capture and edit: Snap high-quality photos and videos instantly. With a single command you can take a picture and use Nano Banana to remove background distractions or playfully transform your images. Try, \u201cHey Google, take a picture and put everyone in funny hats.\u201d<\/p>\n

Translate speech and writing: Get real-time translations with audio that matches the tone and pitch of the speaker\u2019s voice, or simply look at text on menus and signs to hear a translation.<\/p>\n

Get help with tasks: Gemini Intelligence handles multi-step tasks in the background. Gemini can prepare your coffee order on Doordash while your phone stays in your pocket. All that\u2019s left for you is the final order confirmation.<\/p>\n

Tap into your apps: Order a ride with Uber, learn a new language with Mondly and more, just by using your voice with your phone\u2019s apps. Glasses pair with both Android and iOS phones.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll see more on this in the coming months, and at this stage Google hasn\u2019t announced which markets the Android XR glasses will launch in \u2013 but we\u2019re keen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
