General manager Darren Smith called the signing a monumental moment for the club<\/p>\nBurnie product Taran Armstrong has made history as the first born and bred Tasmanian to sign as a rostered player with the Tasmania JackJumpers.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old point guard has penned a one-year deal with an option for a second season.<\/p>\n
Armstrong is widely considered one of Australia\u2019s greatest emerging talents and was the first Tasmanian to sign with an NBA side.<\/p>\n
He signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2025, but didn\u2019t play a game at the top level.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was reflecting on what I needed next in my career I knew I wanted to go to a place where I could be the best version of myself, and that\u2019s here with the JackJumpers,\u201d Armstrong said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really believe in my ability, but I\u2019m far from a finished product and that\u2019s what I\u2019m excited for \u2013 the JackJumpers are nationally renowned for their player development.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have all the pieces fall into place and to be able to play for my home state is such a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t imagine what it\u2019s going to be like playing in front of my home crowd, with familiar faces watching, but I know that I can\u2019t wait for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The JackJumpers\u2019 General Manager of Basketball Operations Darren Smith said it was a monumental moment for both Armstrong and the club, with both aspiring to this since the team\u2019s inception five years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe not only have home-grown-talent on the court, but also one of the most exciting Australians in the league right now too,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaran is really crafty with the ball, he\u2019s unpredictable, we\u2019ve never seen a point guard quite like him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s really one of the most exciting signatures the JackJumpers have ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n
Head Coach Scott Roth said Armstrong would have an enormous impact on Tasmania.<\/p>\n

Head coach Scott Roth said Armstrong was exactly what the JackJumpers were about<\/p>\n
