{"id":68277,"date":"2025-08-14T18:29:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T18:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/68277\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T18:29:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T18:29:09","slug":"celtics-reportedly-want-to-trade-new-acquisition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/68277\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics Reportedly Want To Trade New Acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is another big trade on the horizon for the Boston Celtics?<\/p>\n<p>President of basketball operations Brad Stevens has completely re-tooled Boston\u2019s roster this offseason in response to the franchise\u2019s urgent desire to cut costs, a directive clarified by Jayson Tatum\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/45149253\/jayson-tatum-achilles-tear-celtics-star-faces-recovery\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Achilles rupture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though Tatum is reportedly <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/08\/celtics-rumors-jayson-tatum-way-ahead-achilles-injury-rehab\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ahead of schedule<\/a> in his recovery, the Celtics are still expected to be without their superstar for all or the vast majority of the upcoming 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n<p>Back in June, Stevens and Boston\u2019s leadership decided to lean fully into a \u201cgap year\u201d with ominous luxury tax penalties looming and Tatum sidelined. While the Celtics <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/08\/celtics-president-forecasts-wins-as-tanking-advocates-fume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">still expect to have a winning season<\/a>, Stevens\u2019 moves from this offseason suggest a plan for a renewed title push in 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p>Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday were traded. Luke Kornet wasn\u2019t retained, and Al Horford isn\u2019t expected to be, either. After acquiring Georges Niang in the Porzingis deal, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/jazz\/news\/utah-jazz-acquire-forward-georges-niang-and-two-future-second-round-draft-picks\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Stevens traded Niang<\/a> \u2013 a proven NBA rotation player \u2014 less than one month later to the Utah Jazz for RJ Luis in another cost-cutting move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Stevens has succeeded in dropping Boston\u2019s salary sheet under the second apron, thereby avoiding penalties.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Is Stevens now eyeing further money-saving moves, perhaps to get under the first apron?<\/p>\n<p>Trading Sam Hauser ($10 million owed next season) would be one way to move towards that objective, but on the other hand, Hauser has somewhat surprisingly survived the chopping block thus far, which indicates that the Celtics, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WRFdh7x1nck\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in the words of Sports Illustrated\u2019s Chris Mannix<\/a>, \u201cwant Sam Hauser to be part of their future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Mannix joined NBC Sports Boston\u2019s Trenni Casey and Kayla Burton on Arbella Early Edition on Thursday to talk about the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/08\/former-celtics-owner-reportedly-changing-role-much-sooner-than-expected\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">sale of the Celtics<\/a> and the team\u2019s roster outlook.<\/p>\n<p>Mannix asserted that newly acquired guard Anfernee Simons \u2014 not Hauser \u2014 is the asset Boston is looking to trade next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guy who the Celtics would like to trade is Anfernee Simons,\u201d Mannix said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s making about $26 million this year on the last year of his contract \u2026 which means he\u2019s probably going to be looking for a big deal in the summer of 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I\u2019ve talked to other executives around the league, they\u2019re telling me the Celtics are looking to deal Anfernee Simons, but the market for him is not that great,\u201d Mannix continued. \u201cHe\u2019s a good scorer, but he\u2019s a minus defensive player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sense I\u2019m getting right now is (that) if the Celtics want to move off of Anfernee Simons, they\u2019re gonna have to attach a draft pick to him. Now, maybe that means a couple of second-round picks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey certainly don\u2019t want to attach a first,\u201d Mannix continued, \u201cbut if the Celtics want to get under that first apron and potentially get under the luxury tax altogether, the best way to do it is to find a taker for Anfernee Simons. They just may have to sweeten the pot a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simons, 26, has averaged 15.0 points per game in his first seven NBA seasons, all with the Portland Trail Blazers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Is another big trade on the horizon for the Boston Celtics?
