{"id":684951,"date":"2026-05-21T10:23:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T10:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/684951\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T10:23:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T10:23:18","slug":"backrooms-heading-for-big-box-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/684951\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Backrooms&#8221; Heading For Big Box-Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/backrooms-heading-for-big-box-office.jpg\" data-caption=\"A24\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/backrooms-heading-for-big-box-office.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"backrooms-heading-for-big-box-office\"\/><\/a>A24<\/p>\n<p>New tracking figures for A24\u2019s upcoming film adaptation of the \u201cBackrooms\u201d viral videos suggest it will do considerably better than previously projected.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, early estimates suggested the film will open at a \u201cminimum of $20 million\u201d for its domestic opening weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EmpireCityBO\/status\/2057127423947264351\" rel=\"nofollow\">EmpireCity Box Office<\/a>, one of the most reliable of box-office trackers, has delivered a very different prediction.  They indicate the film will open with at least $35 million and could very well hit $50 million, possibly more.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, it\u2019s indicated that pre-sales of the film are currently matching that of \u201cScream 7\u201d \u2013 a movie that opened to around $64 million earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, it seems the film is certain to break the $25.7 million opening weekend record for A24, which was set by Alex Garland\u2019s \u201cCivil War\u201d.  Not bad for a film said to be budgeted at just $8 million.<\/p>\n<p>Reviews for the film are expected out early next week.
