Emmerdale airs a major update on the village’s mystery arsonist<\/a> tonight \u2013 confirming that unstable Kev Townsend isn’t the one who’s targeting Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle.<\/p>\n

Ever since Robert and Aaron realised that fires were being started on Emmerdale Farm, fans have speculated over whether this could be the start of Kev’s dramatic return storyline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kev has form when it comes to causing trouble for Robron, influenced by his unhealthy obsession with Robert. So, is history repeating itself?<\/p>\n

Well, it turns out this isn’t the case, as Thursday’s episode sees Robert discover that it’s impossible for Kev to have sneaked back to the village clutching a petrol can\u2026<\/p>\n

Tracking down Aaron Dingle at Wishing Well Cottage, Robert explains: “It isn’t Kev. I searched his name \u2013 an article came up, he’s in prison. Of course he is.<\/p>\n

“I spoke to the police \u2013 bad news, CPS won’t be pressing charges for him attacking me. Apparently there’s a lack of evidence. The good news is, they’ve got him on another minor offence.”<\/p>\n

Ross Barton chimes in: “Which means he was in prison when someone else was setting fires.”<\/p>\n

The news makes it more likely that the arsonist is a character who’s currently in the village. Ross and Sam Dingle have been behaving strangely in recent days, making Robert and Aaron suspicious in tonight’s episode.<\/p>\n

Joe Tate is also a contender, as he holds a grudge after Robert exposed his role in causing Moira Dingle’s prison ordeal.<\/p>\n

Fans also noticed a shifty look<\/a> from Cain Dingle’s son Kyle when the fires were mentioned this week.<\/p>\n

Emmerdale bosses recently announced that Chris Coghill will be reprising his role as Kev in the coming weeks following the success of his initial two stints.<\/p>\n

Speaking last month, Chris commented: “I’m really pleased to be returning to Emmerdale. I had a brilliant time last year. Kev is a complex character that I love playing. He has psychopathic tendencies, but also an energy and vulnerability that I think makes him pretty unique.”<\/p>\n

Show boss Laura Shaw has confirmed<\/a> that Kev is coming back to connect with his son Lewis Barton, rather than to cause more mayhem for Robert and Aaron.<\/p>\n

“When he comes back, he’s very much back for Lewis and it’s going to be about building a father and son relationship between them and building on the Barton family as well,” Shaw told Inside Soap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Robert and Aaron are happy, and Kev will kind of leave that alone. The door is closed between Robert and Kev, certainly for the foreseeable future.”<\/p>\n

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
