Less than one month after receiving approval for generic equivalents of Novo Nordisk\u2019s Ozempic\u00ae in Canada<\/a>, Apotex and Dr Reddy\u2019s have launched their generic semaglutide products on the Canadian market.<\/p>\n

Apotex announced its launch of Apo-Semaglutide Injection\u2122 on 14 May 2026<\/a>, stating that initial inventory is available and is shipping to wholesalers and that the product will be on pharmacy shelves in Canada \u201cwithin the coming weeks\u201d.\u00a0 Dr Reddy\u2019s Canadian launch announcement quickly followed on 16 May 2026<\/a>, with the company stating that the launch of its \u201cSemaglutide Injection\u201d demonstrates \u201cDr Reddy\u2019s readiness to ensure patient access following approval\u201d.\u00a0 Both products are indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes and are supplied in pre-filled pens.<\/p>\n

Dr Reddy\u2019s was one of the first companies to receive approval for, and launch, generic semaglutide in India<\/a> (under the name Obeda\u2122).\u00a0 Meanwhile, Apotex received the first US FDA Tentative Approval<\/a> for its generic semaglutide ANDA, giving it an opportunity to be one of the first to launch generic Ozempic\u00ae in the US following expiry of Novo Nordisk\u2019s exclusivity\/patents.<\/p>\n
