Josh Hart dropped a playoff career-high 26 points during the New York Knicks’ 109-93 win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Thursday night, and after the game he dropped a bar when asked about analytics. <\/p>\n
“I’m never a huge analytics guy,” he told reporters. “At a certain point, they’re a lamppost to a drunk person. You can lean on them, but it won’t get you home.”<\/p>\n
Hart told ESPN’s Lisa Salters he knew Cleveland’s game plan would allow for him to get open shots\u2014he hit five threes in the game\u2014with more of their defensive focused shifted to Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.<\/p>\n
“I knew that’s what the game plan was going to be,” he said. “I’ve just been working in the gym, getting reps, making sure I’m shooting the ball with confidence. You know, just believing in my work.”<\/p>\n
Donovan Mitchell said the Cavs might have to tweak the game plan going forward. <\/p>\n
“You just gotta adjust,” he told reporters. “We’ll look at the film and figure out ways to adjust. But sometimes you’ve got to tip your cap. And mean [Hart] made a one-handed spin move on me. Not to say he’s not capable, but sometimes that’s what happens. I think the biggest thing is we’ll make our adjustments, but you give credit where credit is due. They made the right plays and knocked down the shots they were supposed to make.”<\/p>\n
Hart, 31, is generally New York’s fifth option on offense, with Brunson, Towns, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges generally higher on the pecking order. The Knicks present a “pick your poison” scenario for opponents, given their overall talent level, and the Cavs took their chances with Hart on Thursday. <\/p>\n
They chose incorrectly.
