I walked out thinking, \u2018OK \u2026 Noel is here? This will be fun. And what a time we have had together,\u201d Guardiola said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDon\u2019t ask me the reasons I\u2019m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it\u2019s my time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Photo: Manchester United \/ X<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cManchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carrick steadied the ship after Amorim\u2019s rocky reign, with the low of August\u2019s Carabao Cup exit at Grimsby firmly put in the rear-view mirror as he began his short-term stint by beating Manchester City and Arsenal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United turned to Carrick because they wanted somebody who understood the club\u2019s unique pressures to aid the adaptation process as director of football Jason Wilcox weighed up their options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carrick was the unanimous choice in January for a job he competed for with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose coaching staff he was a part of and now follows in going from stop-gap coach to permanent boss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMichael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men\u2019s team,\u201d Wilcox said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the time he has been doing the role, we have seen positive results on the pitch, but more than that, an approach which aligns with the club\u2019s values, traditions and history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMichael\u2019s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United end their shortest season in 111 years with a 40th and final match in all competitions away to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Pep Guardiola is to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
