Base, one half of the legendary hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, passed away on May 22 after being diagnosed with cancer. He just turned 59 four days ago.<\/p>\n

Born in 1967, Base, born Robert Ginyard, met E-Z Rock when they were children in Harlem, New York. They formed the duo as teenagers and quickly found success with songs like \u201cDJ Interview\u201d and \u201cMake It Hot\u201d that amassed local buzz. They created the demo of \u201cIt Takes Two\u201d in about two days, which resuled in the pair getting a record deal. <\/p>\n
After signing, they released their debut album of the same name in 1988, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Top R&B\/Hip-Hop albums chart. The following year, Base released his solo studio album The Incredible Base. <\/p>\n
With E-Z Rock, Base was known for being an instrumental figure in blending hip-hop with house. \u201cIt Takes Two\u201d remains an important cultural touchstone in both genres; the track has been sampled by a wide number of artists including Snoop Dogg and Black Eyed Peas. <\/p>\n
E-Z Rock passed away from diabetes complications in 2014. <\/p>\n
