The battling Toyota and Ford started to fall back into the clutches of the #20 Chevrolet as they approached the Turn 4 hairpin on lap 23.<\/p>\n
However, Reynolds locked the brakes as he ranged up to Kostecki, and harpooned the back of Kostecki\u2019s Mustang, despite trying to take last minute evasive action.<\/p>\n
The damage to the rear of Kostecki ruined his day, and dropped him back to third in the championship with a last-place finish, though he was lucky to make the finish after also clipping Ryan Wood\u2019s Toyota.<\/p>\n
Reynolds meanwhile continued on with a crumpled bonnet, however was pinged with a 15-second penalty, which dropped him from ninth to 17th in the final classification.<\/p>\n
The 2017 Bathurst winner apologised to Kostecki post-race, and took full responsibility for the mistake.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell it didn\u2019t go to plan, I can tell you that much,\u201d Reynolds said of his race.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just got it a bit wrong, and just drilled the back of Brodie. He was having a battle trying to get past Woody, and he had a bit of speed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI broke early, but obviously not early enough, and then I drilled him and just ruined his day. I feel pretty bad for him, after the race I went up and said, \u2018Sorry man, that was just a complete balls up.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll cop that on the chin, and we\u2019ll have a better day tomorrow, not that it was a bad day, we still have something to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Remarkably, it meant all three drivers on the Race 14 podium had been hit by trouble in Race 15, with winner Chaz Mostert penalised over a clash with Jayden Ojeda on lap 14.<\/p>\n
Mostert sent Ojeda into a spin at Turn 6, with the reigning champion also earning a 15-second penalty.<\/p>\n
Andre Heimgartner won the race ahead of Broc Feeney and Matt Payne, with Anton De Pasquale dropping behind Will Brown with a mistake on the final lap. Mostert finished 20th, and dropped behind Brown into 10th overall.<\/p>\n
Kostecki was approached by media, but declined to comment.<\/p>\n
Reynolds still took home a trophy from the day after finishing a strong second in the opening race of the weekend, his second podium for Team 18.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Chaz Mostert converted pole position into his first win of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship in Race 14.<\/p>\n
The reigning champion put on a champion\u2019s drive in the 100th Gen3 race, putting the drama of Christchurch behind him and surging back into the Finals bubble.<\/p>\n
David Reynolds claimed a much-needed first podium of the season in second, with Brodie Kostecki defeating title rival and points leader Broc Feeney for the final spot on the podium.<\/p>\n
Reynolds\u2019 return to the podium was welcome by team and driver alike, however the popular veteran admitted that he was wrapped with guilt early in the race.<\/p>\n
After Mostert scythed down the inside at Turn 6 on the second lap, Reynolds attempted to follow at the final corner, and bounced off the kerb into the DEWALT Camaro.<\/p>\n
Anton De Pasquale would fall back to an eventual sixth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a stuff-up with Anton at the start and pushed him a bit wide, and I felt pretty bad about that. It took me about 10 laps to get over, but after that I was just head down,\u201d said Reynolds post-race.<\/p>\n
Reynolds then further quipped that he got on the front foot to make up with his teammate: \u201cI gave him a big kiss and he likes me again.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hardest thing is to pass your teammate, you have to do it the most respectfully without hitting them, and I just stuffed it all up.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you stuff over a friend of yours, I feel terrible, so it takes a while to get over the depression, and then you\u2019re like, \u2018I\u2019ve got to get on with my own race\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
