Jason Kidd’s desire for a more prominent position with the Dallas Mavericks may have prompted the organization to initiate a parting of ways with their now-former head coach. <\/p>\n
Per Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix<\/a>, the Mavs wanted to avoid a “potential power struggle” with new president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri and the front office by moving on from Kidd. <\/p>\n The Mavs\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday a mutual parting of ways with Kidd, who had four years and $40 million remaining on his contract after signing an extension in October.<\/p>\n In the wake of that announcement, ESPN’s\u00a0Tim MacMahon<\/a>\u00a0reported Kidd had “expressed a desire” to become president of basketball operations after Nico Harrison was fired in November.<\/p>\n However, according to MacMahon, Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont informed Kidd at the time that he wouldn’t be considered for the position.<\/p>\n Kidd was also “kept out of the loop” as the Mavs went through the search process that ultimately resulted in Ujiri being hired to run the front office.<\/p>\n Even though Kidd’s departure was announced as a mutual decision, Ujiri did\u00a0indicate<\/a>\u00a0during a press conference on Wednesday discussing the move that it was his call to make the change.<\/p>\n “What he’s done for this organization we truly respect, so this was a very, very tough decision,” Ujiri said. “I have to be accountable with a decision like this. I also have to be very active in how I look at the organization from top to bottom.”<\/p>\n
