It looked like a nasty incident. You don\u2019t want anyone getting injured,\u201d McQualter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I looked at it again, and I am certain that Tylar Young did nothing wrong in that marking contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was competing for the ball, he was in that marking contest, and unfortunately accidents happen in our game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what they were remonstrating for. It\u2019s disappointing that Jamie got injured, but there\u2019s nothing more to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elliott was taken from the ground on a cart and was seen in the rooms after the game on crutches while having a conversation with Magpies coach Craig McRae.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is too early to make any diagnosis, other than we are hopeful [of avoiding a serious knee issue],\u201d Collingwood coach Craig McRae said. \u201cWe hope for the best. We don\u2019t know until the scans [are taken]. We just don\u2019t know to what extent yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McRae said it was hard to comment on the legality of the marking contest because he was focused on Elliott at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are vulnerable when you are in the air,\u201d McRae said. \u201cI watched the replay, and I was more concerned about Jamie, watching his body movement rather than the actual incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeaking to Jamie afterwards, he goes, \u2018Why did I go for that mark?\u2019. He just felt really vulnerable. He is saying that he felt in the air, \u2018Oh, no\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s hard to comment on the incident itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As well as dealing with the fallout of losing their brilliant forward, McRae was left lamenting another injury to skipper Darcy Moore, who suffered a hamstring strain after being thrown into the ruck during the second term.<\/p>\n<p>The premiership defender stumbled and fell as he competed against Eagles big man Bailey Williams, and then hobbled from the ground. He took no further part in the game.<\/p>\n<p>Despite criticism from commentators for risking the injury-plagued Moore in the ruck, McRae said he did not regret calling upon his skipper to provide temporary relief for Darcy Cameron.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had great hopes that Darcy Moore was going to be our second ruck. I could just see him being his dad [Brownlow medallist Peter Moore], just marking everything behind the play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, unfortunately, he has got a hamstring injury again \u2013 he just can\u2019t get himself moving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore, 30, has played just four games so far this year due to a horror run of injuries. McRae expected he would be out for weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the triple injury blow, it was hard to deflect from Pendlebury\u2019s incredible afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The coach called it one of the biggest occasions in Collingwood\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll never forget it,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you run out onto the ground, and you see the whole history of the footy club \u2013 most of the living greats and the people that have made the foundations what they are \u2013 you just feel so grateful to be part of it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>McRae said he demanded a final effort from the playing group as the game entered the last quarter on a knife\u2019s edge. Collingwood led by 11 points at the final change after surrendering a 29-point lead during the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really wasn\u2019t about style points, it wasn\u2019t really about margins or whatever, it was just about honouring \u2018Pendles\u2019,\u201d McRae said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nick Daicos ran rampant on Scott Pendlebury\u2019s big day.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/bca0236e20f585513e5261634dd2ac8e7ed3fbaa.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ldCIuB\"\/>Nick Daicos ran rampant on Scott Pendlebury\u2019s big day.AFL Photos<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said to the players at three-quarter-time, let\u2019s make sure we put our heads on the pillow tonight, knowing we have done everything we can for this guy for what he has done for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the occasion belonged to a history-breaking legend, the match belonged to Nick Daicos \u2013 further proof that Pendlebury passed the baton long before he passed the games record.<\/p>\n<p>The indefatigable Daicos was the key to dragging his side over the line in a see-sawing arm wrestle.<\/p>\n<p>He was phenomenal in the opening half with 21 possessions \u2013 including nine score involvements \u2013 and a goal.<\/p>\n<p>He finished with 34 disposals and three goals by the game\u2019s end, including the sealer at the 23-minute mark of the final term when he arched his back and beat an Eagles opponent to snap a goal.<\/p>\n<p>Pendlebury was made to earn every minute of his record-breaking game before a crowd of 90,028 people \u2013 dominated by the black-and-white army, who chanted his name at the 10-minute mark of the opening term as homage to his No.10.<\/p>\n<p>All players wore gold numbers on their back in a united front, an idea first raised by Pendlebury and later championed by McRae.<\/p>\n<p>Pendlebury admitted after the game that he has been dealing with an ongoing hand injury. It did not help that his first taste of the action was a brutal clash with young bull Harley Reid.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Scott Pendlebury collided with Harley Reid in the early going \u2013 much to the delight of the more than 90,000 fans in attendance.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779551613_874_1776e1a5cb63bf6da5e4026d5902dab9c8013269d181647c887ac54bd8820337.gif\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ldCIuB\"\/>Scott Pendlebury collided with Harley Reid in the early going \u2013 much to the delight of the more than 90,000 fans in attendance.Fox Footy<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old former No.1 draft pick collected the ball in the centre square and then sent Pendlebury sprawling to the ground with a ruthless \u201cdon\u2019t argue\u201d in his 50th game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dHe\u2019s had a great start to his career,\u201d McQualter said of Reid. \u201cHe has probably had more scrutiny than most, or anyone, in his first 50 games, just the publicity that comes with being Harley, but I just think he has handled it so well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McQualter joked that Reid ran to the bench after fending off Pendlebury, saying, \u201cDid you see me, did you see me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was pretty happy with that. It\u2019s just what he does. He\u2019s a competitor, and he had a good moment there,\u201d the Eagles coach said.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone, the old warrior squared up two minutes later when he dropped his shoulder and cannoned into Reid, knocking him over the boundary line.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time premiership winner also had to deal with a double tag throughout the match from Willem Duursma and Brady Hough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t tell me they haven\u2019t come here today with a mission,\u201d McRae said. \u201cThey start tagging \u2018Pendles\u2019. They have come here to spoil the party, for want of a better term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to fight for everything. It was nothing that we didn\u2019t earn.
