But it was another hour before the Dragons crossed as the Warriors scored just about every time they got near the try line in the 30-12 victory.

In terms of attacking chances, the match was evenly poised, but for most of the night only one side was making the most of their opportunities.

Whenever the Warriors went downfield, they scored. Whenever the Dragons went downfield, they found a new way to cough up the ball.

The Dragons have lost all 11 of their games this season, and 15 straight dating back to last season, and once again the boos rang out at full-time.

Interim Dragons coach Dean Young is adamant the side is improving under him, but he admitted they “lost the physical battle” on Saturday.

“I thought the Warriors were really good at that, their back five ran really hard and we lost the collisions… but the boys kept on fighting all the way to the end,” Young said.

“Where we’re sitting on the ladder and to have so many fans turn up and pay their hard earned sitting in the pouring rain, we appreciate it. Stay with us, we’re building.”

To make matters worse, Dragons young gun centre Hayden Buchanan popped his shoulder out and will go for scans.

The only sour note for the Warriors were injuries to veteran Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (knee) and Eddie Ieremia-Toeava (concussion).

WARRIORS NO. 7 CONVEYOR BELT

No Luke Metcalf? No Tanah Boyd? No problem.

The Warriors embarrassment of riches at halfback was on full display on Saturday night with their third-string No. 7 Te Maire Martin carving up the Dragons.

This time last year Metcalf was on top of the Dally M leaderboard before his season ended with an ACL tear.

Boyd replaced Metcalf and was in a similar vein of form this season before he met the same fate last week just days re-signing with the club.

But Martin, who suffered a broken leg playing for the Maori All Stars in the pre-season, stepped up to the plate against the Dragons.

Martin scored twice and made five tackle busts as the veteran playmaker showed he’s still got plenty to offer this premiership contender.

“He iced two really good opportunities. Coming back into the team he’s doing a terrific job,” Warriors coach Andrew Webster said.

“He hasn’t played much footy and once he gets going he’ll start seeing the game even better and a bit quicker.

“I thought we were really dominant when we hung onto the ball for long enough, the way we carried and we created opportunities on their try line that were just by running hard.”

Warriors come back to beat Dragons | 02:25

SIMPLE SEASON FULL OF SIMPLE MISTAKES

It was the same old story in attack for the Dragons on Saturday night as they made error after error in the red zone.

But it was a mistake at the other end of the field, just a few metres off their own line, that summed up St George Illawarra’s season.

Kyle Flanagan was trapped in the corner and flirting with the sideline after chasing down a loose ball but instead of putting his head down and fighting his way out of it, the halfback did the unthinkable.

Flanagan turned his back on the defence and launched a 30-metre spiral pass that went within millimetres of being intercepted.

Khan-Pereira continued his try-scoring ways.Source: FOX SPORTS

It didn’t go down as an error on the stat sheet, it was a huge error of judgement.

The Dragons finished with 16 errors but it wasn’t so much the number of them that proved costly, rather where they were made.

Time and again the Dragons worked their way inside the Warriors 20m only to butcher the opportunity with a simple mistake.

The first half was ugly and it was rinse and repeat in the second stanza with three errors in the first six minutes, while the final try of the game came when Luciano Leiula threw an intercept coming off his own line.

DWZ pulls off incredible flying finish | 01:03

“I definitely think our attack on their try line can be a bit better,” Dragons captain Damien Cook said.

“We’re probably trying to force it a bit too much. It’s definitely a work-on for us next week.”

The defence wasn’t much better, summed up in the second half when Martin crossed for one of the easiest tries of his career after Clint Gutheron and Josh Kerr fell off what should have been very straightforward tackles in first grade.
