The Scott Pendlebury celebrations were in full swing at the MCG for the Collingwood champ\u2019s record 433rd game against West Coast in special scenes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pendlebury led the Magpies out to an epic guard of honour made up of a combination of ex-teammates, family, other members of the 400-game club and AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon. <\/p>\n

The 38-year old ran through the banner with his kids, Jax and Darcy, who were also wearing guernseys with gold number 10\u2019s on the back. <\/p>\n

It was some sort of pre-game tribute to Pendlebury.<\/p>\n

And prompted joyous cheers from a jam-packed MCG of Collingwood fans that could top 90,000.<\/p>\n

The surprise was all Collingwood players \u2014 not just Pendlebury \u2014 wearing gold numbers in a touch not even the players knew about until just before the game. <\/p>\n

Collingwood coach Craig McRae cheekily admitted the club mightn\u2019t have got ticked off by the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe jumpers look good \u2014 I\u2019m not sure we got approval for all of them, we might get in trouble for that, but we wanted to look like a team,\u201d McRae told Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

It was a move that drew huge praise from Fox Footy pundits.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow good? I love it. That looks terrific, it looks awesome, great to see the club have gone with the full 23,\u201d Kangaroos legend David King said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGee, that\u2019s striking. Well done, Collingwood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tigers champion Jack Riewoldt, who\u2019s previously worked with McRae while he was an assistant at Richmond, thinks the Pies coach \u201cwould\u2019ve driven this\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a bit of publicity about the gold number for Scott, (but) how good is this?,\u201d Riewoldt said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a very, very special occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pies fans got another opportunity to shower their legend in love at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter. <\/p>\n

They held up \u2018SP433\u2019 signs in a loud round of applause around the venue that made for more great scenes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like an Olympic opening ceremony,\u201d Fox Footy caller Anthony Hudson said. <\/p>\n

Demons great Garry Lyon responded: \u201cIt\u2019s exactly what it\u2019s like. This is one of the more amazing scenes you could witness at a game of footy, that\u2019s incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pendlebury said pre-game he was \u201cembracing\u201d the huge occasion. But in typical Pendlebury fashion, he didn\u2019t change his pre-game routine in a \u201cpretty cruisy day\u201d with family. <\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s been really normal,\u201d Pendlebury told Fox Footy\u2019s Mark Howard as they walked out on the MCG.<\/p>\n

\u201cMum and dad stayed over last night. Played a bit of PlayStation this morning with my son \u2014 Sonic Olympics and lost the Rugby 7\u2019s to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cCopped that from him this morning, but pretty cruisy day.\u201d<\/p>\n

While just a home and away game, Pendlebury admitted Saturday\u2019s contest felt \u201cdifferent\u201d given the momentous occasion.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the specially designed boots by his kids was the \u201cbest thing I\u2019ve ever received in footy\u201d and he \u201ccan\u2019t wait to put them on.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the love from people in the street has been hard to ignore! <\/p>\n

\u201cSince \u2018Fly\u2019 (Magpies coach Craig McRae) has been here we\u2019ve been really big on embracing the occasion,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a bit different because an individual award, or I don\u2019t even know what you call it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve tried to lap it up and enjoy it. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty funny, I was doing some shopping yesterday down in Elwood and they clapped me when I walked out and I was holding a pumpkin. It\u2019s like, I\u2019m getting clapped for buying a pumpkin!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cButt it\u2019s been fun and I\u2019ve enjoyed it. <\/p>\n

\u201cNow\u2019s the easy part where you get to go out and play.\u201d<\/p>\n

McRae described the pre-game scenes as an \u201camazing spectacle\u201d as he thanked all those in attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to our Magpie army for all coming out and supporting this day \u2026 we won\u2019t forget,\u201d McRae said pre-game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe set on a path a few years ago about honouring our past and bringing the fans along for the ride, and today\u2019s a great occasion for all those things. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great occasion. We want to celebrate this, we don\u2019t want to shy away from it. We want to embrace every bit of it, and now it\u2019s about honouring him on the field. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m super excited, bordering on emotional \u2026we want to put on a show for our fans, that\u2019s something we always want to do, but also just the way we go about it with our DNA today \u2026 (about) what the process looks like with honouring Pendles out on the field today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans were able to exclusively watch Pendlebury with \u2018Pendles Cam\u2019<\/a> \u2014 an individual camera solely on the 38-year old veteran throughout the game.<\/p>\n

The MCG iwas expecting a crowd of over 88,000, with the potential to hit 90,000-plus in what would be some return involving a non-Victorian club. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that the MCG estimated 70,000 for Friday night\u2019s Dreamtime match and got 78,000 in the house. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be amazing to have that many people here, we\u2019re so fortunate we get to play in front of these crowds all the time,\u201d Pendlebury added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be really special.
