Remove items from your saved list<\/a> to add more.<\/p>\n AAA<\/p>\n Inside modern shopping temple Chadstone and its smooth, white corridors lined with luxury boutiques, you will find a dilapidated weatherboard house.<\/p>\n The house, which looks like it\u2019s falling apart, is the creation of popular installation- and street-artist Rone.<\/p>\n \u201cYou may drive past hundreds of houses like this every day, but when it\u2019s framed like this, it might change your perspective,\u201d says Tyrone Wright, known as Rone. \u201cI really lean into a sense of nostalgia and wonder.\u201d<\/p>\n Rone initially wanted to transplant an abandoned home to Chadstone but realised it would be more practical to build the house from scratch, and so with his team has painstakingly recreated a house to scale, including the kitchen, living room, dining room, driveway and backyard.<\/p>\n Rone\u2019s artwork, Home, will have a creaky front porch, Hills Hoist in the backyard and car in the driveway. Entry to the installation is free.<\/p>\n Related Article<\/p>\n \u201cMy goal is if I can make it look like Chadstone was built around the house, and it\u2019s always been there, then I\u2019ve succeeded,\u201d Rone says.<\/p>\n Unlike recent artworks by Rone, the artist\u2019s murals will not be a focus; instead, Rone has concentrated on the building itself and furnishings to create a meditation on beauty and decay.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of the centre is quite clean and clinical, and I just love the idea, which I think highlights all the prettiness to have that contrast,\u201d Rone said.<\/p>\n The installation is Rone\u2019s first artwork in Melbourne since Time in 2022, when the artist took over the top floor of Flinders Street Station, but he says it will more closely resemble the Omega Project<\/a> \u2013 his transformation of a condemned house left on the site of the old paper factory in Alphington in 2017.<\/p>\n Home is the centrepiece of a plan by Chadstone to lure more people to the shopping centre in the evening, a time when it is usually quieter.<\/p>\n While the retail sector has been hit by the cost-of-living crisis, Chadstone\u2019s moving annual turnover last year was $2.7 billion, up 9.7 per cent year-on-year, and more than double that of its nearest competitor.<\/p>\n Chadstone is privately owned by Vicinity Centres and the Gandel Group. Vicinity reported a $1 billion profit last financial year.<\/p>\n Home is part of Chadstone\u2019s Light to Night festival, a new program of art, food and music, which will include the World\u2019s Longest Dinner<\/a> for 400 guests in collaboration with the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and an after-dark music festival.<\/p>\n After recent expansions<\/a>, Chadstone\u2019s tenant mix is now 25 per cent non-retail, and the shopping centre has working space for more than 6500 office workers.<\/p>\n Michael Whitehead, Chadstone general manager of property, said the shopping centre wanted to support its office tenants, which include Kmart, Adairs and Officeworks, in bucking the work-from-home trend by offering reasons to stay after the workday.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile Chadstone is a shopping centre in lots of ways, that has moved into much more of this city-shaping kind of space,\u201d he said. \u201cMelbourne\u2019s very much about fashion, it\u2019s about art, it\u2019s about culture, it\u2019s about food, and so this is about bringing all those things together in one space.\u201d<\/p>\n The shopping centre has dropped its tagline \u201cthe fashion capital\u201d in favour of positioning itself as a location that is more than a retail destination.<\/p>\n![\"Rone](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/7b41c35ab4c8bc105f549fd00ab4d4175f1e96d0.jpeg\")
