Pauline Hanson says there is more \u201cto do\u201d as new polling shows One Nation could take up to 59 seats if the election was held today.<\/p>\n
The Redbridge Group and Accent Research poll painted a worst-case scenario picture for the major parties, with the Coalition wiped out entirely at the polls in Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania. <\/p>\n
Labor would be reduced to 76 seats, a slim majority. <\/p>\n
Senator Hanson downplayed the result on Sunday, telling Sky News while it was \u201cvery encouraging … it is only a poll\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe real poll is on election day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut, it does tell me we\u2019ve still got a little bit to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senator Hanson said voters on the street had told her \u201cwe need you, you\u2019re our last hope\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re destitute, they really are,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cost of living is impacting on them. Businesses, especially, with this budget that\u2019s been handed down by the Labor Party, the agricultural sector, the mining sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone has been impacted by this hopeless Labor Albanese government.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been true to my convictions, my values, what I want to to change in Australia, and I\u2019ve just kept pushing forward, putting out policies there, informing people where I would like to take this country\u201d, she continued, noting the 40 per cent primary vote in the Farrer by-election for One Nation MP David Farley.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the policy is any real indication, it is an indication people want change, and I\u2019m going to keep pushing forward,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Asked about a potential alliance with the Coalition, Senator Hanson said \u201cwhoever gets the numbers, let\u2019s work together\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u2018Failed on economic policy\u2019<\/p>\n
Reacting to the polling, opposition spokesperson for housing Andrew Bragg said it showed there was \u201ca huge amount of grievance in the Australian community, and I think we have not done a good job in the last ten years on economic policy\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s my main takeaway, that we\u2019ve had too much similarity with the Labor Party,\u201d he told Sunday Agenda on Sky News.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should have done more on tax, more on industrial relations, more on super, more on budget stuff \u2026 we\u2019ve just been too similar to Labor over a long period of time, and we\u2019re been punished.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senator Bragg said the \u201cchickens are coming home to roost\u201d for the Liberal Party, which he claimed had \u201cfailed on economic policy\u201d or to differentiate itself on tax \u201cother than the stage three cuts\u201d. <\/p>\n
He said the Liberal Party had been \u201ctoo much of a uni-party\u201d with Labor on economic policy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we don\u2019t massively differentiate like we\u2019re starting to do on bracket creep, then we\u2019re going to be dead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Senator Bragg said Australians \u201cwant an economic revolution\u201d, and that it was not too late for the Liberal Party to reset.<\/p>\n
However, when pressed on the Albanese government\u2019s capital gains tax reforms, he said he would \u201cincrease\u201d the discount rather than cutting it or returning it to 50 per cent.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should be looking to cut taxes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are heaps of ways you could play around with CGT to actually incentivise more investment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked what cuts would take place to enable such measures, Senator Bragg said \u201cwell, obviously, we\u2019ll get through that\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut, we have to nominate exactly what it is that we wouldn\u2019t go ahead with,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cpeople are too afraid to say what they would cut\u201d.<\/p>\n
Pressed, he continued: \u201cWe\u2019ve talked about it a lot in the budget reply in terms of the government\u2019s boondoggles, like the NRF (National Reconstruction Fund) and the <\/p>\n
Housing (Australia Future) Fund.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously we\u2019ll support the government on the NDIS, but there are other things that we should be looking to to reduce or to remove.\u201d
\u2018No denying\u2019<\/p>\n
Reacting to the same poll, Assistant Technology Minister Andrew Charlton said there was \u201cno denying\u201d the rise of One Nation in the polls.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a phenomenon that we\u2019ve seen all around the world,\u201d he told Sky News. <\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, the challenge with One Nation is they\u2019re very good at pointing out grievances. They are much less good at providing solutions, and particularly they\u2019re not good at providing solutions that help Australian families and Australian workers.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery opportunity they get \u2026 they vote against things that will benefit Australian families and workers. They voted against Same Job, Same Pay. They voted against wage rises. They didn\u2019t support cost of living increases. <\/p>\n
\u201cOne Nation, every single time they face a choice between battlers and billionaires, they choose the billionaires.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if he feared Labor would lose seats to One Nation, Mr Charlton said \u201cwe\u2019ll have to see what happens between now and the next election\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut, clearly, the best strategy for Labor is to present real solutions to people,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s to show them that we are actually tackling the problems that they face in their day to day lives, and this budget is part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pauline Hanson was in South Australia on Thursday to announce her party\u2019s gas policy.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, she also shepherded her party\u2019s second-only lower house MP \u2013 first to win on a One Nation ticket \u2013 into federal parliament. <\/p>\n
